  • Hi Mr B, have you submitted your resignation? I think you need some employment law guidance first - sorry if this is too late.

Missed my running slot again. But on a more positive note we are really making strides towards finding a potential solution to the problems. We sat down with three scenarios that could happen, and I was quite surprised to discover that we both consider the nuclear option to be continuing on as we are - with basically one salary a month being used for debt repayments. And so we now have some clarity - me getting the lethal injection will turn out to be the best thing because it's going to force us to really change our patterns. So a wave of (sober) optimism is slowly revealing itself. Am doing tons of technie stuff in the background ready to launch myself on the world as a freelancer but would rather be spending the time writing - but you gotta have the structures in place.

Mr B. I cant offer much advice re work and money.
So I'll go with what I know (a bit) :D
I genuinely think you are creating a wall for yourself with the running.
You could fit in a session of bodyweight exercises every day, very easily
no need to go out,get dressed up or even get up early
I guarantee you would notice a difference in how you feel doing them in 4 weeks
    low impact,configurable and flexible
Then getting a run in can be your extra bit

Constructive dismissal.............. worth a look into. My OH did this route after being made redundant from a leading university and won - they were so sure that 1) he wouldn't do it and 2) that they would win :)

Am not pursuing anything cute regarding the job situation - picking a battle on that front now would be counter-productive and would slam doors shut in my face that I might need to leave ajar for now. I have managed to secure an adequate deal that ensures 'normal' life continues til after Christmas and gives me plenty of preparation time for the next stage of things. Am going to speak to a financial advisor this week about a potential solution or two to the debt angle, and in the meantime am building up all my social networking links so that when I'm in a position to put a message out, it will get the most amount of people with the minimum amount of fuss. Need an early night tonight as a 5k run is on the menu for tomorrow morning....

  • Just popping by to give some advice on JSA.

If you resign from your job you can still get JSA - they can sanction you for up to 26 weeks if you leave a job but this is very rarely done.

The sanction does not apply for a few months while they get the information from both sides.

The normal sanction for quitting a job is about 2 - 4 weeks.

My brother quit his job rather than be pushed out and he was not sanctioned at all.

I have had clients who quit jobs for no reason other than they got bored etc and they were only sanctioned for a short time as well.

Let me know if you want any more help.

Well it's certainly a rollercoaster here at the moment. Which I guess kinda keeps life interesting. Am upbeat right now - things definitely seem less raw and stress levels are lower than they have been in a long while. It's also good to know there is nothing looming - as it's already loomed.

And another twist in the tale emerges.. Got a phone call out of the blue from an old colleague who, having heard on the grapevine that I was available, had been instructed by her boss to make contact. Whether or not it turns out to be a dead end, the morale-boosting properties of it cannot be underestimated. At the very least, it's good to have options and so there is a spring in the Bloater step that has been missing for a good while. The feelgood vibe was enhanced by a Twin Peaks style moment where a person I have rarely spoken to at work took me to one side today and cautioned me against fighting the system. They had done so, and won, but ended up the loser. This reinforced my view that I was wise to walk away from the battle I could have got embroiled in.
