Well done Mr B. What will you do?? The sensible thing would be to go all VIP. But, there's a part of me that would want to stick two fingers up at them! Sorry. Not very helpful am I? I'll leave now......MFW Challenge 2019 - £2,420 / £2,420 - 100% :T0

It's all very baffling. Hence I'm going to have some wine.
This is probably the most sensible thing I've read all day.
Congrats on it Mr B, whatever 'it' is :T.
As for the SOA - I can quite understand why you don't want to post it on here. Why not compromise? 'Post it' onto a word doc for yourself and then comment on it as if it were someone else's. Then reply to their responses. Then reply to your reply (probably along the lines of 'well if you think £50 a week on cardboard is acceptable then don't come on here moaning for help'). Seriously, take away the excuses and see what is left.
And then tell us what VIP suite you've been invited into.

Am getting some clarity at long last - and it's given me another lightbulb moment. Losing the job was a blessing as it has forced us to really wake up to some uncomfortable financial truths that we were really only paying lip service to. Things on this front are now getting organised and it can only get better.
I now have three offers on the table and so am in a position of strength. Far from having my career trashed it could well be the best thing that ever happened, cos now I've stepped on the metaphorical landmine that I was dodging for so long, I know what to expect and don't have the fear anymore.
I'm seriously pondering having my cake and eating it - whilst flying solo is the brave and potentially eventually most lucrative and lifechanging blah blah - it is kinda hard for a family man to reconcile that with the fact that all over Christmas both myself and Mrs B would be thinking about where my next paycheck comes from. I am a maverick at work, not at home. I think the stress and pressure to perform would inhibit any creativity and could lead to me slumping down. So here's the plan as I see it now. I am going to take on a job - in the same field I am now, but at less money and with less responsibility. Enough money that we can tick over, but crucially with enough time / headspace that I can start properly building up some sidelines. Come the end of the summer, I can reassess - if sidelines are working well and will bloom with extra input, then I go fulltime onto them, if they need longer to flower, then I do another year contract - but all the time building up my contacts and knowledge base.
Plus all the machinations and politics behind the scenes of this messy divorce from my current employers will make for a cracking book.
I am finally feeling back in control of things, and might even get some sleep tonight. And all this without having had a drop of booze tonight. Yay me.2011: 301k in debt and morbidly obese (DFW)

sounds like you are definitely moving forward and sounds like a great plan0

Sounds like a very self-aware and sensible decision Mr B (though I'm guessing this is not the VIP option?).
Here's to you .

When you have young children, a huge amount of debt and an offer of another job with a paycheck guaranteed each month, there is little choice........ good luck0

Been another topsy-turvy day in Bloaterland. Just to clarify - the offer I'm accepting is certainly not the one at the mothership of the organisation I currently ply my trade with - whilst it was hilarious to be asked, and to make them backtrack on pretty much everything they had hurled at me, I have too much self-respect to go back to them no matter how much they beg.
Firmed up some more details about the new oppurtunity, but I do have to contend with two issues. Firstly, this is the time of year when offers may well come in thick and fast, but can I hold my nerve and risk being left with nothing - nope. Secondly, whilst we can tick over on the salary - it's considerably less than before (as in a grand a month less) - so I am not going to be in a position to sit back if we are to dig ourselves swiftly out of the hole.
Stupidly both myself and Mrs B applied today for consolidation loans to try and cut the head off the credit card dragon and were both unsurprisingly turned down. And I'm glad we were, because pulling stunts like this back in the day is what built the debt up - there are no quick fixes - just hard work and thriftiness. I need wine.2011: 301k in debt and morbidly obese (DFW)
