After pondering it for forever, have finally got around to putting in a claim with my bank for PPI on a loan back from '05. Will be trawling through Mrs B's old loans later to see if we can do anything with them. Any idea what sort of figures people are getting back from PPI on a £5000 loan?

I've been helping my Dad claim back his PPI and he received close on 3K for a loan of £8,000. This included the interest paid on the PPI as it was added to the balance originally plus 8% interest extra (think that's being paid out as standard) as my friend also received that on a loan she claimed for.

So, in other words, more than worth giving it a go! :D

We claimed for PPI with our mortgage - we actually made a claim on the PPI when OH was made redundant and had our mortgage paid for 12 months and they still gave us all the payments plus interest back - we got 4K plus - worth filling in the form - the key is how you fill the form in; how you word it really and as you are both teachers then you have had generous ( by most standards) sickness and redundancy benefits as part of your employment terms and conds

Just been catching up on the last couple of pages - another one here recommending the Harcombe diet! I have lost 16lbs in the last 6 weeks, another 16lbs to go.

I am eating piles of food and feel really good too - loads of energy.

It's worth a read - the argument for why 'eat less, move more' will never work long-term is quite compelling :)

Eat less - in amount, not necessarily calories:) I am a butter full fat everything eater and have lost steadily 2 stone over 2 years. Also eat from the farm and not the factory ( borrowed this phrase) :D

The Harcombe diet argument is that if you eat less calories then your body adapts to this and learns to live on less, therefore slowing weightloss and making you miserable as you struggle to survive on so few calories (this is strict calorie controlled diets)

Just worried to see MrB is saying he has eaten 1,300 calories in a day which won't make him feel good, when I am eating twice that, currently weight 10st 2lbs and am still losing weight. Sorry MrB - that sounds like I'm talking about you when you're not here!

Eating full fat is encouraged on Harcombe :) (plus it tastes better!)

The farm not the factory is an excellent phrase :D Harcombe encourages the same - no processed foods.

Well done on losing so much weight as well Igamogam :T

I'm trying the 2 days a week on reduced calories that Michael Mosely advocated on last week's Horizon. I think I can cope with that long term because it is only 2 days a week. In 5 weeks his blood sugar levels, blood pressure, bad cholesterol and some hormone I'd not heard of which I think was some sort of ageing indicator had all come down hugely, eg blood sugar by 50%. And he's lost a stone. As some one on the cusp of diabetes who knows what the many downsides of that are, I have suddenly found the will power to start.
No idea if I've lost weight but 2 people today said they thought I had so here's hoping.
The other effects of low calories is that your body apparently goes into repairing DNA mode, and this can keep alzheimers and heart disease at bay. My scientist and sceptic husband watched the programme with me and has been doing the 2 low calorie days too.
