  • Hi

I think I saw on one of your previous lists that you were going to join mysupermarket.

Before you do that you could sign up to Maximiles which is an affiliate site a bit like Quidco but they pay in points which you can then redeem for items or vouchers.

If you use mysupermarket to place an order with one of the supermarkets you get 400 points for your first order and then 1 point for every £1 you spend up to £80.

I have set myself a challenge of reaching 8400 on Maximiles which will get me a £30 Amazon voucher - I hope to do this twice before Xmas.

Hi Eager Elephant & Mr B

    Good tip EE

I use Pigsback in the same way, but you get daily quizzes on PB with the chance of winning 3000 points too. I have won twice, and choose M&S 2x£10 vouchers, to either buy something in the sale or to give as gifts. There are also clickthroughs that earn 10 points without spending anything.

Well done MR B on your money-saving and bloater-busting, you have some great ideas, and it's definitely easier when they whole family rise to the challenge. It's a great life-lesson for your children to learn to weigh up the various options before spending (one of the options being "do I really need this or do I just want it?"

  • Toughest time on this mission so far - went on the Wii Fit late last night which shattered me, then this morning crawled out of my slumber to shuffle along for my regular 3k which went slower than usual and I was plagued with selfdoubt and loathing throughout (Hard-Fi's "Good for Nothing" coming on during the run really didn't help much). Came home to find that the net result of yesterday's splurge was a 2lb gain so back up to 23-3. Could have been a lot worse.

Lucielle makes a good point, MrB - it doesn't go on overnight!

Just a tip about *when* to do exercise - and its a goody, honest! Do exercise, and *then* eat - the raised metabolic rate you get from exercise lasts for about 90 minutes I think - so food is metabolised more efficiently, and less goes to fat. If you eat and then exercise, you're not getting all the benefit you could from all your effort.

I do really admire what you're doing tho - so energised!!!

Morning. Well done on the 3k run this morning. I do admire your determination. One thing to remember as well about weight is that you will weigh differently at different times during the day (water retention etc) so if you are going to weigh yourself often try to do it at set times if you see what I mean. Also when exercising weight is harder to judge than inches. I believe that exercise will be building your muscles which weigh heavier but exercise should be reducing your measurements so maybe take that into consideration in conjunction with the weight and that might be a bit more motivation that weighing yourself.

With regards to ebay. I read somewhere that the best time for a lot to end is Sunday Teatime as that is when people will be bidding. I have sold a few things and always seemed to get the best results by finishing a bid on a Sunday.

I know you said you were a "numbers man" (like my H) but you need to keep the numbers on the scale in perspective. they don't just weigh fat they weigh food you've eaten, water, muscle and a whole host of other things. In order to put on 2lbs of fat I think you'd actually need to consume in excess of 20,000 calories in one evening. What your change in weight is most likely to be water, especially if you had a takeaway with plenty of salt in it which makes you retain water. By all means check your numbers on the scale but don't let it define whether you have a good or a bad day feeling about yourself. Use body measurements as well as in many cases these can prove weightloss is happening even when the scales say otherwise xx

Mr B - I am another one advocating body measurements rather than the scales. You really need to review your running music too! I went for fairly fast beat positive stuff specifically on a playlist for runnning - black eyed peas for example. Not something I am a big fan of but perfect for what I wanted it for.
