301k in debt and morbidly obese - things aren't great!

It's either tins etc that have dents in it (i think one supermarket put whoops on their price ticket) or yellowed stickered food thats nearing its best before date either way it's reduced price food. xxx0

Just to totally freak you out about whoopsied food, check out https://www.approvedfoods.com - Martin recommends them, they make use of the fact that the "best before" date on packaged food isn't relevant to safety - there are *serious* savings to be made.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

ahhhhhh whoopsied food;).
the thing is to get to know where and what times your local supermarket does its final markdowns.
sometimes it can just be luck. i have a local co-op by my favourite takeaway that seems to do everything for 10-50p after a certain time.
also, the 'car crash' sections can be good - in Mr A's this is separate to the whoopsie section, and generally a packet is slightly torn etc and is sealed with brown tape. these are more likely to be premium goods for at least half price.
I recently acquired 12 Andrex rolls for £2.50 and 3 large jars (200g) of nescafe for £2.50 each. another favourite buy was filipo berio olive oil at £1.50 (shelf price £6.00).
note to self tho: don't include this in your normal asda shop, as the asda price checker will always think you've done really well and there's no sniff of a coupon:o0 -
Another source is http://www.bigbrandsforless.co.uk/. Not such a big range as AF but last time I looked I thought some of it was better value.
There's an Approved Foods thread somewhere...
Best times of day for mark-downs in supermarkets vary but it's often around tea time (for an intial reduction) and the around 8 at night for the serious discounts.Miggy

Seeing as how I manage to inadvertently make a drama out of something as innocuous as going for an early morning run around my neighbourhood - the potential for disaster tomorrow is epic. Long term readers of this thread may recall that it started out with me convalescing from a surgical procedure to limit the amount of little Bloaters we gave to the world, well tomorrow morning I have to deliver a sample. A sample that cannot be more than 45 minutes old. Sample has to be delivered at 9am in another borough and every possible route to the hospital (which would be 30 minutes on a good day) is gridlock at that time. Hospital quite rightly insist on all letters that there are no facilities onsite to facilitate production of sample. So I am faced with the dilemma of producing sample at home and then doing a Mission Impossible dash across Sarf London, or producing sample somewhere closer to hospital and likely getting arrested/caught on CCTV in process. 9am is non-negotiable as I have to be back at work by 10. Needless to say I am not likely to be in the mood for a run tomorrow morning.2011: 301k in debt and morbidly obese (DFW)
