Mr B especially, as you are doing so well and so early in the morning as well, but any of you other runners out there.....

How do you get motivated to start??? I have had until recently a horse my whole life more or less, and am a tiny 5ft2 so any weight I put on it noticible, especially being as I am atm a size 8, but i just can't get myself in gear to do anything else, (i even have a treadmill in the house, hangs head in shame)

Please help me get going, just don't know where to start, other than installing a cardboard dino in the corner to scare me into running????

May I suggest starting with a 'Couch to 5k' programme? This is designed to start non-runners running with walking and jogging intervals....by the end of 9 weeks you can run for 30 mins. The NHS one is free and comes with free podcasts (there's upbeat music and a lady telling you when to swap from walking to jogging and back).
  • @Freshair : Have heard nothing but good stuff about 'Couch to 5k', but the way I did it was by going to walkjogrun.co.uk and plotting a small route that began and ended at my front door. And then walked it. And then tried a little bit jogging, a little bit walking. Build it up at your own pace, and please listen to your body - knees ain't too good at fixing themselves. And the people on here will provide excellent motivation for you. Good luck.
  • @Freshair - Couch to 5K is fantastic - definitely try it - in 6-7 weeks I've gone from barely being able to run for 60 seconds to running for 20 minutes. Very gradul increases and great podcasts at NHS.

  • My faith in eBay is being slowly restored, after the utter shambles of the last listings, this latest bunch of stuff is gathering some more interest and I've already got over a £100's worth of bids, and bizarrely, stuff that was on at 99p and got no interest has more watchers now I put a starter of £5 on it. And my faith in humanity has been also restored cos I found a big glass's worth of Rose sitting in the fridge. Think an early night in front of the box is in order now - everyone else is sleeping merrily.
  • I couldn't read the amount of this diary I have just read and not post.

Has to be one of the most amusing, informative and friendly posts/diaries I've seen on MSE. I love your positive attitude and sense of humour Mr B.

Good luck in your journey, I'll certainly be checking back regularly to see how you're getting on :)

Well done on getting running again. I was all set to start back at exercising (swimming rather than running just yet), but then stepped off a step and sprained my foot. Two weeks nearly later, it STILL flipping hurts so I am restlessly resting.

Oh chev, what a shame! And you've got so much on your plate at the mo - hope it gets better soon.

MrB, good for you, I'm chuffed for you - on all counts, a glass of rose, running and ebay. More of your house belongs to you, financially and space-wise too!

Ooh I like that! Had never thought of it in that way before :) As soon as I am back on my feet and found my mo-jo again, I will use that as a little mantra to keep me going. Thanks Karmacat.

but I knew I needed another level of clothing, so I got out the bodywarmer and zipped it up. The years have not been good to either of us, where before there was a bit of mutual space and leeway, now there was none, it was snug but not in a cosy consensual way. It was like wearing a bulletproof vest, and with the ribbed stitched design if I had had a backpack I would truly have resembled an Obese Ninja Turtle.

    But a Ninja nevertheless.

The canoodling couple clearly weren't up for a threesome with the fearsome Ninja, the lad knew better and bowed to your athleticism and sartorially clothed bod

  • Oops. Totally overslept and hence missed my running slot - will make amends over the weekend. It is a bit odd to be writing the word overslept at 5am in the morning but that's the way things are round here. High stakes today in my eBay journey, got 17 items ending this lunchtime, a healthy 95 quid of sales so far but that's only on 3 items. Many of the others have chunks of watchers on so it's going to be an exciting time.

Having had a little bit of time to read some other diaries for a change, there seems to be a lot of mention of whoopsied food. Can anyone explain what the heck that is, and why it seems to be so cheap?
