Fray Bentos pie vent!

My OH is (or now was!) a big fan of Fray Bentos pies and I didn't mind them every now and again as they're quite a quick easy dinner with some vegetables and mash! Anyway, last night we had a steak and ale one and as he was eating his half, he came across a kind of small hollow hard tube with another little bit attached. He thought it's from the cow's throat perhaps.
I was about to phone them a few minutes ago to complain, so looked at the bottom of the packaging for the phone number when I noticed it says 'although every effort is made to remove all bones, some may remain.' So I'm assuming it must be a common issue? Didn't bother phoning after I read that as they probably won't do anything about it. I don't expect it to be the most top quality meat but you don't want bits like that in your food  Horrible...

Email them and see they may send you a voucher out or may just say never mind , worth a try0

well at least they put it on the tin to make you aware that there may be bones in there.
i haven't ha a fray bentos in ages. i might have one tonight as my cheat meal and feel my arteries clog uphelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
Yeah not encountered one of those for a long time, we used to call them tubes. Quite common in cheap meat/pie products. Think they're some kind of artery.
But yes, they do put you off the product in question. Im like that with any kind of gristle - sausage rolls are a particular item that need careful sourcing I find.0 -

Thanks for the advice but after that we decided we're not buying them again! I wasn't after compensation or anything like that (maybe the £2 for the pie if they offered) just made me feel sick thinking about it ever since.Yeah not encountered one of those for a long time, we used to call them tubes. Ah ok, I'd never seen anything like that before so was pretty horrified! OH has been saying we need to spend less on dinners as I'm quite fussy about eating value meals etc but think I'd rather spend more and it hopefully not happen again! No more Fray Bentos pies anyway that's for sure.
I know what you mean about sausage rolls, remember we got some from Lidl once that had lots of hard bits...0 -
get the voucher if they offer it and give it to a friend who may need it, ( the one you dont like very much )0

exact same thing happened to me years ago, and I haven't touched a Fray Bentos pie since.0

My sis bought some pate from Home Bargains, unsure what brand. She got half way through it when she found a flap of skin. Gross! There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

I was eating a burger from Morrisons (the fresh ones from meat counter) and found a 'tube' in the middle. Was nearly sick. Won't eat burgers now...:oGetting married 23rd June 2012!!:o0

These tubes are common in meat products, particularly cheaper ones. You've no cause for complaint - they won't hurt you. Although I agree they're not the most attractive parts of the animal to eat..."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I knew there was a reason why I've been a vegetarian for the last 23 years..... :rotfl:0
