No, it would be very easy to do, and it seems that a number of people have been collecting other people's reservations. It would have nothing to do with the Argos staff. The reservation number that's been issued by Argos is unique to you and your purchase. How could anyone else know what you have ordered. Surely it must be a chance in a million that someone could choose A:- The Branch who are holding the reserved item and B:- The Reservation number. I'd think that this Reservation is computer generated and doubt if any Random Punter could come up with info? I'm not accusing Argos Staff but would think that the only way a Reservation Number could be passed on fraudulently would be from within the branch?0 -
I ordered one tues in comet after the guy on phone said they were due more in and to order in store, guy in store very unhelpful and said to not waste time in ordering but I thought I would chance it and so ordered and paid, I called head office today to see what the chances of me getting were and she said that they are due some in tommorow all of which are sold and one is mine, what do you think my chances are of getting it? dont think I will beleive it till in my hands but would love it for my sons xmas present
Well Done, I hope you are successful in securing your order. I've always found Comet very fair to deal with. They have more or less promised you your Touchpad and taken your money so I'm sure they will honour it.
Good Luck0 -

Not an expert (!) but I believe the numbers are sequential for each store, not nationally. I have ordered two items virtually simulataneously for the same store and got two consecutive numbers. What the original person suggested happen is they reserved something at a store (not a touchpad!); got a reservation number - say 012345, then went to the kiosk and entered 012344, 012343, 012342 etc. until they struck 'lucky'.
Normally not an issue as you probably wouldn't be desperate to search for a Elizabeth Duke gold chain or dogs basket, but the number of touchpad reservations could make it appealling to someone with no scrupples, and there is a fair chance that a high % of reservations for a store yesterday would be touchpads0 -

I would think that there would be a better chance of picking the winning numbers on the Nation Lottery than coming up with a correct reservation number, but that's just my thoughts on it. Anyone stealing another persons Reservation is dishonest, I cannot believe someone would stoop so low. If there is some method of stealing an Argos Reservation it's best for those who have Reservations that you do not reveal how this is done.0 -

Oh well, I guess the secret of how it's done is out now and hope that this is brought to the attention of Argos.0 -
Not really - if there's an issue keeping it hush only makes it worse. Maybe argos will change the system if they see it is flawed?I would think that there would be a better chance of picking the winning numbers on the Nation Lottery than coming up with a correct reservation number, but that's just my thoughts on it. The 'secret' was out in post 534.
To 'protect' a reservation it 'just' needs a second item of data to verify the order - mobile number would probably be easiest, but Argos would need to balance easy of usability with a once (or perhaps occasional) scenario where an item is sought after. Does this warrant changing all their systems (online, telephone reservations, texts etc.) and the associated costs?? Probably not, unfortunately.0 -

I agree with you fully. I didn't know that this deception/theft could be carried out with relative ease.
I certainly hope that Argos can come up with a more secure system than at present. I feel sorry for those disappointed people who have had their Reservations stolen.0 -

Sorry, I didn't know that the info on how this can be done has been posted.
Maybe if Argos adopted the same system as some other retailers ie, pay for your reservation up front, bring your printed receipt along with the debit or credit card used in the transaction it would stop this happening?0 -
