I am more surprised at how obviously shoddy Argos's reserve and collect system is !!!

Surely when you reserve online you are given a "number" on a receipt which you then have to print out and present at the store when collecting ... that's how every other "reserve and collect" system does it.

I was responding to a previous poster who was implying that Argos staff were keeping the Touchpads for themselves, because there was no way for anyone else to be able to buy an item which had been reserved. I'm sure Argos wouldn't have been too happy to have had people wrongly accusing their staff of taking the reserved stock either!

I shouldn't have implied that, but I had no idea some people would stoop so low to steal other peoples reservations. Now I know the system is so fallible I'll never be able to leave collection of an item till the last minute again!

When use I reserve & collect at Argos I read the reservation number off my phone to the assistant, saves me printing it off.

Now I'm not accusing you of anything and I read the number off my phone as well either from a text or an email but no-one has ever asked to see what I'm reading if you see what I mean. Even a print off in theory could be fudged as well as you could order any aul thing on-line then change the details to match before printing.

Maybe all this should be fed back to Argos? They don't ask for confirmation of your name, email address or phone number when collecting so anyone can do what has been previously posted.

No, just go to the self service kiosk enter your 6 character (sequential), pay on the chip and PIN machine and just take your collection ticket to the counter to collect the item. No requirement to enter e-mail address / mobile number etc. (but there may be in the future after this!!).

The kiosk needs to be smarter, perhaps stop after three codes are entered and not bought, or ask for extra info (email mobile etc).

It is open to abuse at the moment. :(

why does their system even give people access to their own reservation number, net alone ALL reservation numbers, at a 'pod' inside the shop ?

Because it saves employing someone to type it into the computer, same as those self-checkouts popping up everywhere at supermarkets.

I'm just about to head off to Argos to try and collect one I reserved on Saturday. I got a text on Saturday which gave me my code and told me they would text to let me know when it was there, it's meant to be there today so I will let you know if I get it or if someone has stolen my code!!! If they have, find it, get it, argos it can kiss my behind!!!!!

Managed to get a 32GB thanks to reserving one on Sunday for collection today at the Riverside Norwich store. Had to wait about 10 minutes to collect because "it was in a secure location and a manager had to bring it over". Top marks to them for great service throughout, very happy :T
