I have had to get a lot of new uniform this time as my daughter is moving up to high school, so all different uniform. I did find one tip though to get ink out of shirts, spray the ink with a Bristows type hairspray ( dont panic if you see it spreading ) just throw it straight in the washer before it dries. Nail varnish remover does pretty much the same job.:)

Thanks, thats a great tip. How does a 10 year old get a big splodge of blue ink in the middle of his back??? One of his shirts also has several unidentifiable black marks on it that even bleach wouldnt shift, think that one is going in the bin.

Hair spray is amazing at getting biro off trainers too. Dont ask me how I know that.

I have got away pretty lightly this year, £15 Tesco bundle just for the winter coat really, so have got plenty of polo shirts and trousers now to last my DD all year (got the next size up in both with the coat). Don't need new shoes or jumpers, or skirts. DD wants a new bookbag, but that won't cost a lot.

I only bought all new the first year she started school. not she spends the first few weeks in her "old" uniform then when tesco reduce it all to clear usually a week after they all start school i usually pick up trousers for £2 a pack of 2 shirts for £1.25 sock and pants etc the only thing i pay full is for the schools own jumper

spendless I buy long sleeved shirts from M&S for my eldest. He doesn't grow much, and they are still fine after 2 years :D

I remember starting a thread about this subject, probably 6 years ago, because my mother was horrified that I hadn't bought new uniform for the first day back. My son doesn't grow much and his uniform was in good condition so I saw no need for new. I wash shirts before he wears them anyhow, so he wouldn't have that 'fresh from the packet' look about him anyway even if I had bought new.

I seem to remember a lot of people liking to see their child looking smart and new on the first day back, so it's interesting to see how things have changed recently :)

I think with my mum it's partly due to her being so poor when we were growing up - we never had new uniform, it always came from oxfam or neighbours - so she likes to buy new things for my kids now that she can afford to (and it's all so cheap in asda!).

Got new shirts and trousers because this is the only time of year that Tesco sells them. The sweatshirts still fit from last year so I'm not getting any new ones. Spent a fraught 30 mins in Clarkes today getting new shoes and trainers. Cost a fortune too.

I have bought uniform, because it's on offer, not because my kids need it. It's difficult to get uniform in my town as the shops only seem to have it in august, so you have to buy it then and put it away for when they grow.

Youngest needed a coat, so I bought the tesco bundle and got smart-ish trousers for eldest to put away for work experience next year. I got polos in the next size up for youngest but he won't be wearing them until he outgrows his current ones, or they are thrown away due to ink stains.

I have bought socks and boxers for both kids - not for 'back to school' especially but because the shops don't have enough of a range throughout the year so it's tricky to get the size you want in tesco, for example.

so, although I have bought stuff my kids will be wearing their old stuff in September :D

Not bought DD a new school blazer as she only has 8 months of schooling left and begrudge forking out £50 for a new one when last years still fits her!! Fair enough its abit worn but it will last her.

My son's said the same about his PE kit. It looks like it needs replacing (he's worn it for 4 years!!) but it still fits so he's said don't bother.

Youngest is only in year 1, so if I buy eldest new kit the kit may change before youngest goes to that school, so I can't justify buying it and keeping it for him. He'll be bigger at age 11 than my 16 year old is anyhow.
