Anyone else not buying new uniforms?

White school shirts were too grubby around collars-cannot get them clean.
And Tesco had £5 off clothes if you spent £25, so I *had* to buy something else, obviously. So two pairs of trousers hit the trolley (I needed to spend £80 to get £12 off, too). But he may not need them until Christmas, so they can hang in the wardrobe until then...import this0 -
Went to Clarks in the rain, with the boys' school shoes in their backpacks, DS2 has gone up a full size so needed new shoes & trainers, but DS1 has only gone up 1/2 a size to 7G. His last shoes were 7F & the chap tried them on his feet & agreed they were fine so money saved there for a while. He's had them since the end of October and they don't look battered either.
My next door neighbour buys her son 5 new white polo shirts every half term! I say, if they school wanted them to look immaculate, they wouldn't have white as the uniform colour... I have suggested she bleach them, but no, she'd rather buy new and bin the old ones

Have done this myself in the past, not bought new stuff because it was not needed yet.
Then found that in October/November when some new stuff was needed you couldn't find any school uniform in the shops because they were jammed to the rafters with Christmas things and had hardly any school clothes in stock.
Told myself that this year I would buy when it was all in the shops and save myself a lot of bother!0 -
i don't miss the stress of having to buy uniform, my dd attends a SEN school and can wear what she likes basically . this wouldn't work in a mainstream school with everyone trying to out do each other but that's not the case at her school. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I feel quite pleased with myself because I have not bought either of my sons anything new for the next school year. It feels really strange and I do feel like there is a temptation to buy them new stuff just for the sake of it (well I am sure I have done that in the past, maybe its just me!).
Both of them have shoes that fit, they both have enough shirts, jumpers and trousers either handed down or still OK from last year.
I have sorted out DS2's white shirts and thrown out some that were stained. (How does he get so much ink on them?). He will need some new ones later on but they will be OK until Christmas. They will both be smart and presentable when they go back and I know they wont be bothered that they dont have anything new.
You are so lucky!
Mine all had to have new shoes (thankfully I had family help with that) my twins went up to juniors so had to have new stuff, DD1 has grown and destroyed both her jumpers and her polo shirts...
All that saved me money is their coats still fit and I passed all DD1's skirts down to the twins.
They have cost over £300 this year :eek:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

One year, I'd only bought bits of school uniform and intended to get the rest whilst on holiday. We were going towards the end of the summer break and coming back as term started. We went to Canada to visit DH's relatives. On our 1st full day there as I sat at the breakfast table drinking coffee, reading the papers, especially the 'back to school adverts' I had a sudden realisation. The majority of schools there do not wear school uniform :doh:so there was nothing suitable to buy. When we got home I sent DS on his 1st day back in the bits I had, and then got on the train to a large shopping centre in a nearby city, with DD who wasn't due to start nursery till later that week, so I could buy everything else I needed.0

I buy my son new uniform as and when he needs it. Surely it can't be the case that kids only grow from mid-July to the beginning of September? He had new clothes around Easter, and only needs new shoes when they go back0

Just thought I would share my bargain! School blazers from our school uniform supplier are £38 with logo on breast pocket. I just bought a plain black John Lewis one off Ebay, new with tags, for 99p and will have the breast pocket removed from his old blazer and sewn onto the new one. I have been doing this for years, and get such satisfaction out of it!!0
