Anyone else not buying new uniforms?

Hi

I feel quite pleased with myself because I have not bought either of my sons anything new for the next school year. It feels really strange and I do feel like there is a temptation to buy them new stuff just for the sake of it (well I am sure I have done that in the past, maybe its just me!).

Both of them have shoes that fit, they both have enough shirts, jumpers and trousers either handed down or still OK from last year.

I have sorted out DS2's white shirts and thrown out some that were stained. (How does he get so much ink on them?). He will need some new ones later on but they will be OK until Christmas. They will both be smart and presentable when they go back and I know they wont be bothered that they dont have anything new.

No, girls are growing way too fast - plus white polo shirts and them just dont seem to mix! I've tried bleaching, boiling and all sorts. Well done you! :money:

When I was at school (less than 10 years ago) I had new jumpers (which I even procured from a larger school friend 2nd hand!) and shirts once in 5 years and the rest did me for the whole school career, God knows how, I obviously didn't grow very much...but the point is I never felt as if I needed new stuff :)

  • My little one is petite and hardly grows much. I haven't bought anything new for going back to school in September as her skirts are still fine but I will have to buy trousers come the colder weather.
  • I managed to get by with buying DS new trousers, shoes and short sleeve shirts. His long sleeved shirts from 2 years back are too short in the sleeves but fit everywhere else (he's a real skinny minny), so I thought that the short sleeved variety may last 2 years :) His trousers from last year were hanging by a thread and would not do! Shoes were also too small...and not even fit for resale on ebay :(
He didn't however want a new school bag so we are now in year 3 of this bag. I really grudged paying £10 in Clarks for it then but heyho if we get 3 or more years out of it then it was a not bad buy!
I felt bad last year not buying "all new" but gave myself a kick in the butt!:rotfl::rotfl:

No :( DS has gone from size 7-8 years to size 9-10 in the last 8 weeks! I cant moan too much though as he fit size 5-6 clothes until he was 8 1/2 so I saved lots of money then, but since his coeliacs got diagnosed he hasnt stopped growing!

my twins are just starting school so it's all new, not only that but i had to buy them coats in 3-4 cause they only do 3-4 or 5-6 and 5=6 was massive i'm not sure they'll really last the year but fingers crossed i suppose, on the plus side other than 2 ties, 2 polo's and 2 coats it's all been on offer :)

Had to this year but considering DS didn't have new uniform last September I can't really complain. Oh wait yes I can because 2 polo shirts, 2 sweatshirts and one PE t shirt cost me £40!!!! I hate the way everything has to have a logo on it :(

I have 3 at school. My teenagers (boys) are shooting up and both needed new blazers, trousers, shirts, ties and shoes. Thankfully PE kit will do though they play loads of sport, in school and out, so new trainers/boots are needed. The younger needed polo shirts, sweatshirts, trousers, socks and shoes. I have a small supply of hand-me-downs but boys will be boys and these will only do in emergencies ie havent managed to get the uniform dry in the winter!

It is not always like this some years have been much cheaper or I have managed to stagger the buying over the year.
