Anyone else not buying new uniforms?

Funnily enough we are going out on saturday to get everything . To be fair though, a lot of what we were given when DD started infant school 3 years ago has lasted her all the way through so we have done very well. She starts juniors in September so I have been very lucky.
Just hoping the school shoes still fit

All three of mine need new school shoes, which means trainers too. I usually buy my DD2's uniform second hand for £1 an item from the school, when they have the right sizes. Unfortunately this year they haven't had the right sizes in, so I've got her two pairs of trousers and three polo shirts (her last three went pink in the wash. My fault!). I still need to get her a sweatshirt for chilly weather. For DS I've only bought a new blazer and trousers - his shirts will last a while yet. My DD1 needs new skirts, but the rest of her uniform doesn't need changing - I struggle with skirts for her because she doesn't want short ones, and to make matters worse she has long legs for her height. M&S school uniform has been a no-no for years because they are not knee-length even on someone with average length legs. Last year I had to buy a whole new uniform for DS because he moved up to high school, so that was a huge expense. I just haven't got the money this year to replace everything so I'm glad it doesn't need to be replaced.0

Just been in to sainsburys to get polo shirts for dd2, and they have 3 packs starting from £2.00 per pack. They only had one pack in her size, but on another aisle they had the exact same ones for the same price - only this time they were a 2 pack instead of 3.
When i queried the diff was told the 2 packs are the new stock, and that they're reducing the pack size. However, she would check if any more 3 packs. Result - lady reappeared with more right size 3 packs so I managed to get what I needed.
Sainsburys have 25% off all Tu clothing at the mo (inc uniform), so they actually cost me £1.50 for 3 pale blue polo shirts :T

I've had to buy both ds and dd new shoes as they've both had a growth spurt. Ds needed new trousers too (how can a 9 year old need age 13-14!). At least his polo shirts and jumpers should do until after Christmas. Dd is moving up to juniors so we bought her cardigans ready last term (bit on the large size but should last her longer - well, if one size just made it for 3 years of infants
). Will check dd's other uniform in a week or so but may need to buy new skirts if they are too short  GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100 -
Our school system is changing from September this year to join the 2 tier system they have on the mainland, it has meant that my youngest 2 have a new school to go to and a brand newly designed uniform to go with it - only one supplier and near £50 for each blazer and 'perscribed' shirts, trousers and PE kits - I cannot beleive how they expect parents to afford all these new items with the way finances in general are going ")
I just know that DS will loose, wreck his uniform in days, whilst DD will get umteen letters home for adapting her,s - hey-ho
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Just thought I would share my bargain! School blazers from our school uniform supplier are £38 with logo on breast pocket. I just bought a plain black John Lewis one off Ebay, new with tags, for 99p and will have the breast pocket removed from his old blazer and sewn onto the new one. I have been doing this for years, and get such satisfaction out of it!!
Fantastic thinking !!!!:beer:Must learn not to count chickens before they are hatched!!!!:D

Eldest daughter going in to Y11 - doesn't need anything new:-) The only thing that I have bought for DD2 is a new pair of shoes - the others really were on the last legs, and I'll have to pick up a couple of blazer buttons, as they have long since gone. It does feel strangely liberating, not to be going out and buying uniform that's not really needed.0

Am envious that you are able to do this. Not that mine have blazers but all the rest of their logo'd stuff is embrodered onto the clothing item. DS's schoolwear is only available from the school. You make out cheques to ' X school fund' :silenced:. I have find an unofficial supplier of school jumpers priced cheaper in an independant kids clothes shop and have purchased 2 unofficial jumpers (to grow into) and 2 official ones. The embrodiery is darker in colour on the official ones, but I bet within a few washes that wouldn't be noticeable, the thread is thicker on the offical ones, but the main giveaway is the label inside the jumper, so the label will be removed just in case an eagle eyed teacher notices and queries.Just thought I would share my bargain! I still have to buy the logo PE polo shirt and Rugby top, but the quality of the school supplier blazer is awful. It soon shows wear and tear and goes shiny very quickly.
A good few years ago when my older boys were in school I was looking at plain blazers and thinking how much better quality they were when the idea hit me. The whole of the pocket is just removed and the old pocket sewn on, you can't tell it has been it has been done.(I get it done by a local dressmaker) I have had four boys go through school (this is my last!) and must have saved a fortune over the years.0 -
I have had to get a lot of new uniform this time as my daughter is moving up to high school, so all different uniform. I did find one tip though to get ink out of shirts, spray the ink with a Bristows type hairspray ( dont panic if you see it spreading ) just throw it straight in the washer before it dries. Nail varnish remover does pretty much the same job.:)Never play with your Bellybutton your Bum could fall off.:rotfl:0
