I hate to tell you this but that Tesco chicken with bacon & cheese has changed it's syn value since the book was printed, and it is now 2 syns per portion. I also love it, but for 2 syns I still have it.

The one that is still free is the Asda chicken in sun dried tomato butter, and that is lovely as well.

Thanks debsjc, I haven't actually bought any of these things yet as I was a bit dubious about how they could be free, so 2 syns is not too bad, I may well have a try.

So what about the things like stewed steak in gravy and the frozen sliced beef in gravy and the lamb shanks in minted gravy, how can they all be free?

cande - not sure I'm afraid. What edition is it ? I don't understand how they calculate the syns for stuff. Perhaps its something they could consider for their website ? A sort of have you wondered how we calculate the syns kind of article ?

I know I buy a Te$co Simply Cook Lamb Shank (with gravy) and last time I checked this was free - I buy it quite a lot - before you cook it, you can see the fat (that seems to vanish when cooked) and I do  how this can be free but its yummy and proper comfort food in no time at all (you cook it in the microwave) so even it did end up having a few syns, I would probably still buy it.

I have been up 40 odd minutes but still don't seem to have woken up yet....

I have taken steak out of the freezer so will be making a chilli later :j I usually add whatever veg I can find in my fridge/freezer to increase the superfree content. :T

I have melon that needs eating up from Te$co so will have that shortly although I feel I need a chocolate fix so will be on the hunt for a cereal bar of some description that is either low in syns or is a HEB

I also have $ainburys be good to yourself sausages so will cook those up later for a late brunch :T

May have a snack of pasta n sauce for lunch with added veg :T

so a mixed menu today but hoping it will be ok.

Weekends are my danger time. I had far too many syns yesterday so need to try and be good today. I also need to make sure I have enough superfree on my plate.

I know it's not recommended, but I always weigh at home half way through the week, so I can keep an eye on things. This afternoon I haven't lost anything since Tuesday, despite sticking to it totally. Hope I can lose at least a pound before Tuesday. I've been eating scan bran cake, which usually helps, but not so far this week.

Neither have I! Maybe we shouldn't step on the scales til weigh in day.:o

WI day and I've lost 1 1/2 lbs. Not bad considering I'm still trying to wrap my head around it all. Still not eating enough, but at least I didn't STS, so I'm pretty pleased with myself. And the best part is, I didn't feel deprived at all. I switched to SW from Atkins because I couldn't handle no carbs. Besides, I imagine once I did reach my target, I would have put everything back on quickly because I would have gone a bit crazy. :)

I tried that the first 2 weeks, but it just stressing me out. I was having sleepless night worrying if I had lost or not (even though I stuck to plan). Also I was wishing my life away until the next Tuesday. For me I would rather know how it's going, I am more chilled out about it that way. :)

BTW I see the Tesco lamb shanks in gravy mentioned. I cut the bag open and remove all the hard white fat before cooking them. As the bag is then split I just microwave it in a casserole dish. I have no idea how they are free.

lfcgurly - congratulations on your loss :T

I am a little disappointed that despite thinking that I followed SW to the letter I had gained 0.5lbs at WI and am now the weight I was in Sept '10. I have no idea where I am going wrong. I am not feeling too good physically either so am not doing as much, maybe that is why I have gained. At the moment I am reducing doses of meds ready for starting something new. I was told that people usually lose weight when reducing these meds but that hasn't happened either.

It's disheartening isn't it Poohbear? I am going on holiday in a few days and when I get back I shall be heading back to SW after a break of 18 months or so. I have put on almost a stone in the last year because I have had PTSD following an incident last Spring. It has left me unable to go out on my own and I can't always find someone to come with me so I am not getting the walking and cycling in like I used to. I'm also on medication and that can cause weight gain I believe.

Just wanted to let you know you're not alone. Even when I went to SW I took forever to lose nearly 2 stones whereas other people it just fell off. I was like you, I stuck to it and exercised loads and I used to hate hearing people say "I can't believe I've lost 3 lbs this week because we had a chinese meal, went to a wedding reception and had 10 Gin and tonics on a night out!":(

Hey everyone. I've made the same mistake of weighing mid week between WI's today too. I never used to do that when I weighed myself on the wii fit as it seemed a lot of effort to turn it all on and log in just to weigh myself but we got some actual scales after christmas and I really struggle not to sneak a peak every day.
They said 8 stone 8 today which would be a loss of 2 and a half pounds this week but now I'm in that mind set of not wanting to put it back on before Wednesday WI.

Only thing is there's a good chance I will as it's my sister's 21st tomorrow so we are out for her birthday meal tonight. She's picked an Indian restaurant and the only thing I really like is chicken korma which I'm sure is probably the worst thing on the menu. I really want to go out and enjoy the meal though as my sister will only be 21 once. I'd planned to have a flexible syn day today and I probably wouldn't even have thought twice about it had I not stepped on the scales this morning. Silly me, when will I learn, I knew it was a bad idea even as I was doing it.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend :)

my 100 food optimising days book has a page on going out for an indian. it has the other two meals as low syn as possible and when you get there have one poppadom, some mango chutney, plain boiled rice and if you like it a veg based curry like a dhal or one of the sizzler dishes where they serve up chicken or lamb with spices on a little griddle with no added sauce.

if you want korma, i think its up there with chicken tikka masala as pretty much the worst things to eat BUT if it is an important occasion i always tell myself it only happens once a year (or lifetime for a big birthday/anniversary) and i don't want to be a miserable party pooper going on about diets and what i cant have or sitting there with a face on because I've passed up a chicken tikka for something i didn't particularly want. nights like this are exactly what flexible syns are there for, the one night when you want to go out, have a good time and not worry about syns and diets.
