Hi Goldilockz, well done for deciding to take the plunge.
What is it about the group that makes you nervous? I'm sure the consultant will be lovely.. you should get weighed away from the general hustle and bustle and your weight is kept secret unless you want to tell anyone.
it is a big step going through those doors, but think of it s a great acheivement.
I am considering re-joining class. i'm struggling doing it on my own and now we've moved I know there's a new class (same consultant) closer to us with different people in it... hmm maybe something to discuss with OH..
Hi Shala,
Thank you for your advice. It's just the anticipation of walking through the door and people looking at me, but I guess we are all there for the same reason. I might phone up the consultant before the class to let her know I'll be joining and to express my concerns. I'm sure she'll put my mind at ease!
I know what you mean about going it alone. I lost 3st at Slimming World but when I reached my target, I stopped attending the class and put on a lot of the weight. My weight has gone up and down since then and my eating habits are dire. I am hoping to join a class so I can get back into the habit of eating healthily and having the occasional treat as opposed to my diet comprising 90% chocolate! I think the support from other people is great and much needed when you're trying to lose weight and everyone seems to be saying 'one piece of cake won't hurt you!' Good luck if you do join a class xx0 -
Deleted_User wrote: »Hi everyone,
After reading everyone's posts here, I have decided to join my local SW group. I am reallllyyy scared however! There is one on tonight and one tomorrow night so I am hoping to plluck up the courage and go to the one tonight if possible. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can get rid of these nerves? Thanks guys xx
you won't be alone!! i'm joining (yet another) group tonight. my old consultant that i got to target with has one tonight. I'm dreading it because I'm going in to the one that got me to target now being 3 and a half stone over it
the one i went to last week just wasn't up to scratch and i don't want to giver her my money when i don't feel I'm getting what i pay for.Alexelisey wrote: »Well I weighed in this morning to find I've put on 1/4 of a pound. I know it's not a lot and it was * week last week but I was extremely fed up this morning. I feel better now though. Maybe if I start posting my day's food on here it'll help, although I keep a food diary anyway. So here goes:
B: Milky coffee (last one I think *sad*)
S: Honey nut shredded wheat 12 pieces (HEB) with splash s/s milk
L: Ham salad with light salad cream (3 syns on salad cream), mullerlightwill be Mango chicken from one of the magazines (not to hand so I can't remember what veggies are in it) but I haven't decided what to have with it
Drinks so far are strong tea with s/s milk x2 and green tea x1 and if I need another snack I have a banana.
Comments anyone please?
if its EE id say there isn't enough SF over the day and if you aren't measuring your milk i'd have a look to see how much you have actually been having. it does however come in as a perfect red day which would give you 2 HEA and 2 HEB so your milk amounts would be fine and you'd have one more B to use. it could just be * week and will all go next week!0 -

Don't worry, I'm sure the consultant has had many people return to her groups after they've gained some weight. It happens to the best of us! I'm sorry your old group wasn't up to scratch and I agree that you shouldn't be giving her money when you don't enjoy the experience. Do you know what kind of materials they give you on the first night? I am hoping to read through everything and then plan what I'm going to eat for the next week. Best of luck for tonight and I look forward to reading your experience xx0 -

That's exciting! I'm looking forward to going now! I'll probably end up spending a fortune on all these goodies, especially if there are recipe books for sale at group too. I'll be back later tonight with an update xx0 -
goldilockz, just calling by to wish you good luck for tonight. There's really nothing to be scared of. Keep an open mind and if it doesn't suit you after giving it a try, there's always other groups. I'm not quite as tall as you (5ft9) and my target was 10.5 stone. That's slim enough for me but my consultant was happy for me to drop into the next band if I wanted. I'm sure it'll be fine for you. Let us know.
Alex, I was wondering why you'd thought that was your last milky coffee? If you're happy with strong/green tea for the rest of the day then use it for your breakfast coffee if that's what you enjoy. A good tip is to put the day's allowance in a separate bottle/flask so you know you're having the right amount.
mm, I was thinking that perhaps you can get your dad to agree to a minor revamp of his menu. If he's a meat and two veg man it's really not difficult with SW roasties! Your mum would then find she had a few syns in gravy but all the veg, meat and potatoes would be free/SF. Same goes for casseroles as stock is free just needs a little thickening. I'm open to trying new recipes (and thankfully so is DH) but I know a great deal of what we eat is the same as ever but adapted to SW. Maybe he'll become a convert to Mexican Bake, just change it's name so it doesn't sound too foreign.:rotfl:0 -
I have just had a quick skim through the thread, I can't weigh myself until I find out what is wrong with the scales however, (sorry, cannot remember who it posted they were possibly eating too much fruit). I think this may be my problem, I only have veg with my dinner and if having salad at lunctime, its mostly veg (obviously). My weigh in is a Monday which may now change as I save syns for my rose at the weekend, Friday & Saturday. On a normal day, I would say I eat approx :-
B - Usually all berries & melon
L - Apple, kiwi, grapes (3 pieces anyway)
S - Afternnon snack of banana, plum
D - More berries or fruit salad
I know fruit has more calories/sugar than veg, perhaps need to re-think my strategy, I also agree with others, it is expensive to follow, thats me going to Aldi on a Sunday to stock up as well and I have to make a different meal for me as my DH works shift, DS gets dinner at childminder and DD is a fusspot!! Sunday Roast is really the only day we can sit down and all eat the same with only a few adjustments for me.:TGratitude is the best Attitude :T

That's exactly what I want to discuss with my Mum maman - I know it can be done and I just need to get her over the "he's so difficult I can't possibly diet with him around!" way of thinking!
Goldilockz, I definitely understand your angst. I'll be going to group next week for the first time after going it alone for a while - it's only for a couple of weeks but it'll also get my Mum in the front door which she wouldn't do otherwise so fingers crossed.Mediterranean Mum
hoping to lose 50lb by February 2013! 2st lost so far :j0 -
Maman, thank you for your good wishes! It's good to know that even if you have only a little to lose, you are welcome at the groups. I don't want to be right at the bottom of my weight scale but 11st is my goal, I like having a little junk in my trunk!! When I was in my last group, I was teased about being 'skinny' so I would rather not have that this time because even if I don't have a lot to lose, I don't like the idea that I'm less welcome at the groups than someone who has more to lose. I also remember going into Evans to buy some shoes as I'm a size 9 and I love their shoes. One of the customers took one look at me and said, quite nastily 'they don't make your size here, go and shop in New Look'. At the time I was a 14-16 so they did sell my size but that's besides the point! xx0

I haven't lived in the UK for many many years so forgive me for this question but aren't there vegetable markets that sell fruit and veg cheaper than the supermarkets? Sometimes (and I don't know where you live so this may be way out) you can buy direct from the farms and therefore cut out the middleman and buy cheaper. Every fruit and veg has its season and I guess you just need to make use of what's seasonal to try and get the best value for money.
Fruit is definitely more calorific and higher in sugar so I'm sure if you change from fruit to veg you'll find that you have a loss.Mediterranean Mum
