Maman how do you make your dauphinoise potatoes? I've been trying to get a decent SW recipe for them for ages!jennyjelly wrote: »I love this thread! Getting some fab ideas for menus and you are all so supportive. I wonder how much weight has been lost in total by everyone on here? Probably enough to make several extra people.
Right, can I ask a really daft question please? I'm doing EE and finding it great, feeling healthier than I have in years, it's true you are what you eat! I've been given a load of pre-EE books and mags and there are some fab recipes but syns are only given for red & green. Is there any way of working out EE syns from this?
BTW I'm not over-impressed with the big syns book, really badly organised so I'm finding it hard to find what I'm looking for. Ah well, live and learn.
when it first came in we were told to take the lowest of the R/G values as the EE syn value. seems to still be the way most of them are in the mags and on the website.
the big book is useless, you spend ages trying to figure out what the foods classed as and dividing it up into "smart syns" and the stuff that just is syns is ridiculous.0 -
Thanks evilsquid. So just to be sure, if a a recipe is free on red but 8 on green (or vice versa) it would be free on EE? Sounds too good to be true but I love it!Oh dear, here we go again.0

I use a recipe that my niece gave me. She's French so it should be authentic. This is her 'real' recipe but to cut back on syns I have used quark instead. It's ok but a bit watery. Cheese (grated cheddar) can be HEA. If that's the case then syn free.- cook potatoes until firm but not soft, leave to cool then peel
- mix pot of low fat creme fraiche, chicken stock cube, minced garlic (I use 2 heaped lazy tsps) and pepper to taste in saucepan and heat very gently. I add milk if not enough liquid.
- layer potatoes inn dish and add sauce (I like to add a bit to each layer so it percolates down properly)
- put grated cheese on top (or at each layer if you want), cook for about 40 mins in a medium (200) oven.

yes, because the bit of green that would have been the syns (probably the meat content if it was free on red) will be free on EE because it is all the red free food and green free food.
the only recipe conversions you have to watch out for are EE to R/G because you have to know exactly what is free on what day, exactly what gives you a HE and exactly what the syns are on the day you want to eat it on.
thank you maman! that sounds lovely! i used to get single cream and water it down with chicken stock. adapted from a james martin recipe that was basically just double cream as a sauce :rotfl:0 -
Thank you so much for explaining that. The world (or at least the SW recipe world!) is my oyster now.Oh dear, here we go again.0

Afternoon all - having the girls round tonight so its wine night! :jI have been on the plan for almost 3 weeks and I feel so much better for it. I have only had booze once a week rather than 3-4 times a week before I joined SW, and haven't had any chocolate or crisps since starting either. For the first time I am enjoying cooking and experimenting with recipes which is a revalation so teh whole family is eating better.
Not sure whether today will be EE or green yet but so far I have had:
B - Banana & kiwi fruit
L - home made Tattie & Leek soup (tatties, leeks, onions, veg stock & tarragon) made with more leeks & onions than tatties so should be SF.
Think I'll make some homemade humous with carrot sticks and light dairylea on mini ryvita for snacks tonight - but don't worry, I'll have some crisps etc for the guests too!Mortgage Aug 22 £280,000

Found this recipe in an old SW magazine!
Potatoes Dauphinoise
Serves 4
Free on EE or Green
Ingredients
Fry Light
1lb 4oz/567g waxy potatoes such as new or Charlotte peeled and sliced.
2 sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
5oz/142g quark
11 fl oz/312ml vegetable stock
A pinch of cinnamon
A pinch of ground nutmeg
3 tsp garlic salt
Freshly ground black pepper
A handful of fresh parsley, chopped.
Method
1. Preheat oven to 200c/400f/gas 6. Spray a medium-size ovenproof dish with Fry Light. Arrange half the potatoes and the sweet potatoes in the bottom of the dish, and then top with the onions. Finish with a layer of the remaining potatoes.
2. In a jug, mix together the quark, stock, cinnamon, nutmeg and garlic salt until smooth. Season with black pepper, and then pour the sauce over the potatoes.
3. Bake for 50-60 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown (if the top is browning too quickly, cover with foil). Allow the dish to rest for a few minutes, then garnish with the parsley, and serve.A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit!:rotfl:
Joined SW 13/9/10 - wanted to lose 56lb and lost 26lb! Rejoined on 9/1/12 having gained 17lb of my loss!!!
Want to lose 50lb. 50 - 8.5 = 41.5 to go!0 -
Been pretty good today, slow-cooked a gammon joint and made SW chips with my potato allowance as a HEB.
Had a blip, thought McCoys were 4 syns (mental block I know - they are 4 points on WW) and they were 8.5 syns. Trying hard not to blow my points for the day and go off the rails.0 -
Had a 0.5lb gain at wi on thursday so trying to be 100% this week! Doing ok so far apart from two curry "sample" with a tiny square of naan bread that they were demonstrating in asda!!
Made falafel for dinner, it was totally lush but a little crumbly. The recipe was just chickpeas and herbs etc, no binding ingredients. Have put left over uncooked balls in fridge for lunch tomorrow, am hoping that chilling them will firm them up a bit!!

hi all
so i am not hungry - but want to eat.
i have just used my heb's for the day giving in to my toast craving, used my syns on choccie - and now made a huge cup of tea.
SW say to eat when hungry until you are full - and use superfree.
so this is the truth about why i am fat - i would normally now sit in bed with laptop and a big choccie bar, or bag of crisps, or toast ETC
my diet is sooooooo boring due to my health problems
soup, mash, pasta noodles, white bread. chocolate/crisps.
i had chips last night when we went out and my tum has been sore all day - so no more naughties for me - just not worth it.
i am so frustrated! am desperate not to reach to the kitchen cupboards.
anyone else have this want to eat problem?
