  • Lost 1lb this week - a bit disappointed as have stuck to it pretty rigidly, but this cold is a nightmare - hopefully I will shake it off soon (I've had it for 10 days plus already!)

Well done to all the losers - and I would also go with the opinion of the sports scientist bod - your consultant sounds a bit barking to me! I've had plenty of S/W consultants - and all are agreed that exercise will help you lose more weight - but possibly after an initial 2/3 week settling in period when a gain wouldn't be a surprise!

Onward and upward everyone (or should that be downward!)
    :jFlylady and proud of it:j
  • Oh my  I'd go with him too...

I'm no expert but I thought (and please correct me if I'm wrong)....1kg of fat weighs the same as 1kg of muscle BUT...the fat is more bulky...so if you had the same mass of each the fat would weigh more!
Plus....the more lean muscle mass you have the more calories you burn quicker!
When you use muscles more than usual they can retain water at first...hence why sometimes we see a gain when we up the exercise.....
and.....all this happens whether you follow the SW plan or not!!!

:naughty: Think your consultant needs to go for more training!!!! Maybe you could take her with you :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hope you enjoy it...you'll have to let us know how it goes :)

    FC xx

he's told me to ignore cardio because it just won't get the results i want and that i need to do resistance training. but that will "blast fat" (his words) and build muscle at the same time so while I'm doing that i'll loose inches but to just ignore the scales because they won't be an accurate measure of what i've done or whats changed. this week I've not lost much weight wise but I've been pulling my jeans up all week cz they've been falling off me so i know somethings changed and its done it quickly, its just doing like he said and not showing up on the scales cz ones decreasing as the other increases.

it did this last time i started body magic, my losses slowed right down to 1/2 pounds or maintains but i toned up. at least my other consultant understood that the amount I was doing will have a drastic effect on both my body and weight for a few weeks until it settles down. this one said i was doing well to be "realistic" in a sarcastic "hmmmm cba doing plan and blame it on "muscle" eh?" tone. she then gave out a gold award to a woman who just does golf a few times a week. what i did last week was over gold standard, and proper gold because you aren't supposed to get it if you don't do resistance training too as well as cardio.

I think I made the best choices I could and apart from the crushed potatoes & fries mushrooms would have been free on EE plan.

Planning to have Grilled bacon & baked beans for breakfast!

You did amazingly well!:T I find hotel breakfasts quite good. Agree about the beans and bacon but often there's lots of fresh fruit as well.

I've just watched Biggest Loser. I prefer to record it so I can skip over the adverts and all the repeated bits. I thought the water task was a bit unfair as being scared of water (which some so obviously were) put them at a disadvantage. I only watch it to see how much weight they lose really. I know I couldn't hack being bossed about by the trainers.

evilsquid, it will be really interesting to know what you find out at the consultant event. I think some consultants either don't do their homework or make it up as they go along. What's happening to you seems to happen to everyone at my group who does serious exercise. I know many people measure themselves for motivation because they are losing inches and more toned. Stick with it in spite of your consultant!

I will stick with it! DH and I just booked 2 weeks in New York for our anniversary in aug and I don't want to be fat in manhattan like last year!

I already know it's just a franchise and your group is up to you past the obv stuff of the books and prices and general things that happen on a night. A woman at my mums work did SW consulting and Avon to get some spending money in and that's literally all it was to her. she even took the scales to work and weighed people in lunch and her group was just pay and weigh!

I'm thinking of doing a group at uni aimed at students. The student SW life is very different to the normal one and I went through it so I know what it's like juggling SW with being flat broke, lectures, exams, field trips and endless messy nights out followed by whatever takeaway you stumble into at 3am.

Shame about the strawberries mm,as they're perfect SW food being both SW and SS. maybe tomorrow?
I was wondering about your Tuesday meeting. Is it at someone's home or a hotel or anywhere you could ask for 'special' food to be supplied. I wouldn't do it if it was a one-off but as it's every week then a commercial enteprise should be providing some fruit and salads. It's a reasonable request. If that's not possible then you could say something like bread etc isn't agreeing with me, do you mind if I bring my own and you could eat your frittata and a fruit salad. The other option is to do (as many people do) and have one- off, planned 'binge' on a Tuesday morning so by 'planning' it the guilt would go. I know someone who goes to the chippy every week after WI and then she's 'good' for the rest of the week. It just means having fewer syns every other day.

Yep definitely going to buy these strawberries today. I continued to snack the rest of the day and didn't have my planned evening meal either but I did do 29 minutes walking on the dreadmill and 1 minute running :rotfl:

The Tuesday morning meeting is a business networking group I attend. It's held in an old-age home and although I've requested fruit several times they don't provide it every week although this week they had bananas and apples (exciting huh?!). They also do the cut up vegetables because I asked for it and the w/m bread is also because I asked for it. They make fried eggs and also scrambled eggs but to be honest every time I've eaten the eggs I am ill for the rest of the day and I'm sure it's because of the fat that they use to cook the eggs in as I'm not ill when I eat eggs at home. So now I just don't have the eggs and stick with the bread, vegetables and fruit if there is any. They won't allow me to take in my own food as they say if they allow one to do it everyone will be doing it! I thought about it though and I'm going to make some kind of breakfast egg and vegetable muffins so that I can grab a couple of them on Tuesday morning and pop them into the microwave before I leave and eat them in the car on the way. I'll then have the usual breakfast when I get there but hope that I'll be a little fuller. I'm also going to try and have lunch and supper prepared for that day so that I don't have to spend time in the kitchen - I'm usually exhausted by the end of the day.

What a brilliant idea Evilsquid although you might have trouble getting some of the students to admit that they have an issue with food - kids (and I use the term loosely) can be so sensitive about their weight at that age.

Am starting to get really disheartened with this!!

So after 6 weeks I've lost 6lbs - any slower and I'd be at a complete standstill.

Have wi tonight and a sneaky peak is showing a 2.5lb gain - am gutted cos I have stuck to it 100% this week!!

Seriously thinking about giving it up.

    dont give up! 1lb a week....is near 4 stone a year
    who wouldnt love that;)

try not to have the sneaky peaks, this seems to throw an awful lot of people off track, one weigh in a week is plenty

good luck, hang in there :A

I thought s/w assigned you to a group - i know someone on here last year was thinking about it - she wanted to run a work group - someone told her it's not that simple......

Mind you a group aimed at students might be good - but wouldn't it have to be open to everyone? And the student life is not relevant to most s/wers!
