Hi Everyone, I joined a group on Tuesday wanting to be a healthier me this year but i am so confused! i looked at the website for some ideas for recipes and for a cottage pie it said add 6 syns if not using the extra lean mince as a healthy extra...i didn't know meat was a healthy extra..! Help, if it's a healthy extra why is it not on the food diary as one..! I don't think i've done amazing this week as i've struggled to get to grips with some of it but hopefully i'll get it! Mea while if anyone can help on the mince thing i'd appreciate it!!
    Tink x

Extra lean mince can be counted as a healthy extra B choice on a Green day, if you've already had both your healthy extra Bs you need to syn it. Syn values for different minces are here: http://ourworld.slimmingworld.com/downloads/Zoom-June2011/Extra%20lean%20mice%20Syns.pdf

This is a good overview (from Wikipedia):

    • 'Extra Easy plan': Free Foods include most fruit and vegetables, fish, lean meat and poultry and eggs, wholemeal pasta, potatoes, grains and beans. Healthy extras include bread, cereals, cheese and milk.
    • 'Original plan': Free Foods include most fruit and vegetables, fish, lean meat and poultry and eggs. Healthy extras include bread, cereals, cheese, milk and carbohydrates such as wholemeal pasta, potatoes, grains and beans.
    • 'Green plan': Ideal for vegetarians, Free Foods include most fruit and vegetables, pasta, rice, potatoes, grains and eggs. Healthy extras include bread, cereals, cheese, milk, nuts & seeds, and protein such as lean meat, poultry and fish.

    EDIT - cross posted!
    My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

hello everyone I've been doing well this week.

Think WI on Thursday may go well. 3lb lost up to now since the 2nd Jan and back under the terrifying new "stones" bracket that I had crossed into over Christmas. Got about 40lb to lose I think. Have really upped the exercise and managed to get into a routine, its what I've been desperate to do since...well forever, if I can get into a routine with exercise, I always eat better.

Need to be a bit stricter on the syns this week I think, writing things down really helps.

In a bit of a quandry, I have (generally) Rice krispies for breakfast (cant eat any other cereal due to intolerances) and syn it at 6 syns. I have 2 nimble whites for lunch (HEB), and 198g potatoes for dinner (HEB). I do red and green days. I've tried not eating carbs at breakfast and feel really ill. In fact, the only meal I can seem to go carb-free is dinner and then I just seem to be eating a chicken breast with veg which seems a bit like something is missing. Basically I'm worrying that I won't lose weight as I'm eating carbs for all 3 meals on red days, significantly less carbs than I used to eat, but still carbs. Any advice? I try and have omlette at weekend, but eggs do something funny to me in the mornings.
  • Thanks everyone, I'm a lot less confused now, it must be a green day recipe I found! Thank you all x
    Debt to clear: feels endless...

    Weight loss to go: 42lb/13.5lb

Maybe someday i'll be skinny, organised and debt free..

your body needs carbs to function so don't worry about eating too much of them. if it makes you ill not eating them then keep on eating them!

i used to do loads of green days and i still got to target with steady losses each week by eating carbs for breakfast, lunch and dinner. i had cereal or porridge in the morning, bread at lunch, pasta, noodles or potato for dinner and mug shots were my snack of choice. i only used to do red days about once a week when i wanted a big salmon fillet and even then i used to struggle with what to eat as i used to eat it with potatoes and so only had one HEB for bread/cereal and i couldn't eat mug shots. i think i lived off eggs and yogurt :rotfl:

Still no meal plan sorted - my good reads project seems to have taken over my weekend... but in any better news, my chilli and beef casserole are looking good :j

I was thinking of having a veg box delivered every week / every other week instead of having my veg from the supermarket but I wondered whether anyone else buys their veg like this ?

I did have a veg box once but sulked because the main item I wanted (blood oranges) were not available :( so I didn't bother after that.

But I was thinking in a bid to get back on track, try new stuff etc, veg boxes might be worth a go again?

Thought I'd post my food today as it seems to help others stay focused.
    EE (I hope!)
    HEA: Milk for drinks

    Breakfast: Banana, Apple, FF yoghurt
Lunch: Roast Beef, Dry Roast Potatoes x 2. Brussel Sprouts, Carrots, Peas, Sweetcorn, Yorkshire pud (3.5 Syns) Gravy made with granules (3 syns?)
    Tea: Veggie frittatta
Snacks: Lychees, apple. melon, quavers (4.5 syns)
    So 11 syns used and
Still got my HEB for later.

By the way (I think it was blackberry rum that was in a panic) Pagan Krisprolls are still a HEB, I checked the website, they're just not listed in the new book. :D

And Prudent it's the comping board I know you from, though I don't seem to have much time to do that at the moment

Did I see that Pagen krisprolls are no longer a HE, as of this years new book?

 I hope not!!! They are a firm fave of mine and my way of keeping off the bread if I know I have that option it helps me keep on the straight and narrow! I will ask at club this week or read my new book but if they are I shall put my stubborn head on and keep having them as a HE with syn free homemade hummous!

Or I suppose they could be synned, I do find I need to use my syns for yoghurts and soya cheese as I'm vegan and there are not low fat yoghurts/soya cheese so I keep my syns for those at times.

Don't panic!!! They are still a HEB, according to Slimming world Website, just not listed in the new book. :D
