How have you found the EE Recipe book? Pondering on whether to get a copy for myself!

Hope ASDA goes well, I was in there the other day and there were soooo many tempations - but I managed to navigate the isles wisley...this time!

I've found the EE recipe book one of the goods one.. I've cooked most of the recipes and they're nice, tweak them a bit if you like spicy foods.

  • Hi Everyone, I joined a group on Tuesday wanting to be a healthier me this year but i am so confused! i looked at the website for some ideas for recipes and for a cottage pie it said add 6 syns if not using the extra lean mince as a healthy extra...i didn't know meat was a healthy extra..! Help, if it's a healthy extra why is it not on the food diary as one..! I don't think i've done amazing this week as i've struggled to get to grips with some of it but hopefully i'll get it! Mea while if anyone can help on the mince thing i'd appreciate it!!

Do you have a recipe for the mexican potato bake as this sounds like something I would enjoy.

Mexican Bake - 1 good sized portion
    • Dice up 2 medium sized potatoes into bite sized chunks and boil until almost cooked.
    • Meanwhile, chop up a red onion, red pepper and a couple of cherry tomatoes or a salad tomato and fry with frylight (or dry fry) in a pan.
    • Add a dollop to taste of oregano and stir.
    • Add the boiled potatoes and about about half a carton of passata (enough to liberally coat the veg) and stir through.
    • Put the whole mixture into an oven proof dish and sprinkle grated cheese on the top.
    • Pop it in the oven until cheese has melted and browned (about 200C).
    • Scoff!
If you count the cheese as an A choice its free on a green day.

No idea - I'll let you know. Not all of them are ripe yet but was thinking I need to make something with them otherwise I'll end up binning half of them :( I once made avocado icecream for a "green" party - it was the most disgusting thing I've ever made! Anyone got any soup recipe or other ideas what I can do with them?

Where in the Med are you? Any ripe oranges? Trying to remember a recipe I have in a book in Spain:
peel & slice 4 oranges, 1 red onion
cut 2 avocados into chunks & toss on top
add black olives and some toasted almonds
dress with ?????? Recipe calls for olive oil and lemon I think, but I find a few sprays of frylight plus lemon juice and some spices (cumin seeds???) is ok.
You'd need to syn the avocados, olives and almonds but it's gorgeous :j. The oranges cut through the creaminess of the avocados and the olives and almonds add some extra texture. Serve with a green salad and grilled meat :A.

However, I find the best accompaniment for avocados is a teaspoon :o. Nom nom nom :)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hi Flat Eric, Yes i am. :)

If you are following the extra easy plan then the extra lean mince is a free food. It would only be a healthy extra option if you were having a green day. Remember to add one third of your plate superfree as not all recipes will mention this. Either add superfree veg into whatever you are making or serve on the side. Or have a big bowl of fruit salad for pudd!

recipe please for spice red pepper and butternut squash soup - do you think I can add avocado?????????

Not sure if this works but googled avocado and this came up - may be adaptable? http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/search.do?keywords=avocado

My Spicy Butternut squash and Red Pepper Soup (may be that it's already out there but I've not seen it - just adapted a Butternut squash version) The syn free version (serves 4 - 6):-

    1 Large butternut Squash, cut
    1 Red Pepper, cut
    1 onion, diced
    1/4 tsp curry powder
    1 tsp ground ginger
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 med potatoe, diced
    2 pints boiling water
    4 chicken oxo cubes

Put the butternut squash and red pepper onto baking trays and spray with oil, roast in the oven until soft and roasted (about 20 mins), mean while put the onion in a pan and gently fry until browned, add the curry powder and ginger and cook for a couple more minutes.
Put the roasted squash, pepper, potatoe and onion into a large pan, add the boiling water, seasoning and oxo cubes and cook for a further 15 - 20 mins then blast it in the blender - delicious!

To make my squash sweeter I usually add some olive oil before roasting - just syn as needed! (Oh and I have now learnt not to measure over the tray, the hard way :rotfl:)!

Could try adding avocado....please let me know if it's nice!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

    Enjoy....:D

did you find an older recipe that is for use on a green day? if the topping is potato mash and it mentions meat as a HE its def a green one. on green, meat is not a free food and would need to be used as a HEB.

if you are doing extra easy, ignore it. the potato AND meat are free so you can eat as much as you want of both.

EE is free food is fruit, veg, meat, fish, pasta some grains and beans with 1 HEA for dairy and 1 HEB for cereals and bread.

green is free food fruit, veg, potatoes, pasta, some grains and beans with 2 HEA for dairy and 2 HEB for cereals, bread, meat and fish (which is why i think your recipe is an old green one)

red is free food, fruit veg, meat and fish with 2 HEA for dairy and 2 HEB for cereals, bread, potatoes, pasta, some beans and some grains.
