hi all
thanks for the kind words maman and dee
i thought about falling off the wagon - but decided next week might be better - so stayed firmly on with no after WI treat :A
today green:
b:2 weetabix, milk (hea, heb)(must add syn 1 tbsp sugar) muller light vanilla
l: pasta n sauce, (must check syns for chicken & mushroom) small salad of lettuces & spinach
d: planning laughing cow salad (hea) and 2 nimble (heb) as taking kids out for tea..........dh is making sw chips for me to come home to.
does everyone use all their syns? i prob used 50 in a week last week cos i had a meal out, and wondering if i should use more? most days it is just syn for margarine.......should i use the whole 5-15?
The post weigh in treat is tempting!!!!!:o
I tried to do green days with two As and two Bs and didnt lose weight at all. In fact I am 99% sure i gained:o:eek::o
When i asked my consultant she said to try cutting down to one HEA as SW generally recommend you only use one. I know a lot of people here have two though, so it just shows you how much it varies from person to person. I love cheese so i was delighted to be able to have cheese and milk in one day
I lose weight at an incredibly slow rate, so it's only through EE that I was able to lose weight. I tried red days thinking they would give me a boost and they didnt. Kind of glad as I find red days really hard.
Syns wise I use ten a day . Some people can use 15 and still lose, but I'm not one of those people . Some people less. My consultant said each person has their own limit and you will work it out over time . One piece of advice would be don't cut them out thinking you're helping, as they are there to be used:j
Another thing for me personally is my weight loss follows a certain pattern for the month, depending how close I am to TOTM *rolls eyes*. I don't change anything but i do seem to retain water around that time, then the week after i have my biggest loss of the month. With me, it's very much a case of slowly slowly catchy monkey
Stick at it and you will find what works for you
I keep a paper food diary as it helps me track everything much better
Piglet - well done on Miss Slinky!!!!!!!!:j:AA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I use all my syns (70 a week) but I save them up for weekend treats.
:T it's a loss!! and next week's will probably be better.
We share the same problem dimbo. I use almost all my syns for weekend wine:D and eat almost syn free during the week. It's not the official way but it suits me and it's worked. There's a great thread called 'Giving up/Cutting down alcohol' where we do a School Night Challenge (no drinking Monday to Thurs) and monthly totals. It's like a star chart for grown ups with lots of support and encouragement. You might want to try that as well. Good luck!
Regards saving your syns, i read on the SW site the other day they now permit you to do this. I'll see if i can find the quote.
4. You can’t save your Syns up for a night out at the weekend!
Yes, you can! If you really want to – and you feel really confident that by depriving yourself of Syns for some or most of the week, you’ll be able to enjoy your night out knowing that you’ve stayed within your week’s Syns – go ahead.
If missing out all week feels difficult… and especially if you’re worried about ‘blowing it’ part way through, the alternative is to stay flexible with your Syns. Your weight loss may be a tiny bit slower, although in the long term you could actually achieve a greater weight loss because you avoid those feelings of deprivation. What’s more, with flexible Syns, you could eat healthily and happily for the rest of your life and keep your weight off for good!
This might be of interest as well as I know it's been a bone of contention for a while
2. Are couscous cake and lasagne-sheet ‘Doritos’ Free?
You might be disappointed to hear that they’re not. Because changing the use of a food can make it easier to over-eat, to protect your weight loss they become Synned.
When foods like pasta, rice and grains are used in their original form they’re low in energy density (calories), bulky, appetite-satisfying foods. Pasta, couscous and rice are usually the main ingredient in a meal packed with other Free Foods – giving it sufficient bulk to be satisfying as a meal in itself. However, when ground down, used as flour (like in couscous cake), seasoned crisps (like Doritos) or pur!ed (like smoothies) they’re often used as additions to a main meal… and on top of your day’s Syns. It is a very effective way of adding a lot of extra calories in a non-bulky way, and as such would then be counted as Syns.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Thanks zippy. I'm glad that SW have accepted that. I did lose quite slowly (an average of 1.5lbs a week) but I was ok about that.
People at my group make a couscous cake (it's never interested me as I'm not a cake person) but I don't think they grind it to flour.0 -
But you're around target now, aren't you
It's taken me 4 months to lose 20lbs! I had hoped for a few big losses at the start but it didn't happen that way
I read it as flexi syns may affect weight loss, but saving up and using won't . Is that how you read it?
Did you decide your target weight in advance or as you go along? I have a weight in mind in a certain pair of jeans - but it keeps me curvy and not "skinny" if that makes sense. I don't want to be very thin, i imagine if i fit these jeans i will be happy. But i don't know if i will get there and want to keep going.
Photos of me in those jeans, i like what i see so that's the aim for now.
And as for couscous cake - i can't imagine anything worse. I would rather have the odd treat of real cake !!!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

What's the difference between flexi syns and saving up and using? I'm an online user nad I've never heard the term flexi syns before.0

WI tonight - I lost .5lb. I'm a bit frustrated - cos it leaves me .5lb from my 5 stone award!
Still at least it's a loss - onwards and upwards...:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -

Flexi is when you allow yourself a certain amount of syns for that particular occasion .........that could be 20,30,40,50, 60 or whatever you decide you need. you then have what you want upto that amount of syns and the next day you are back on track with your daily allowance of 5 - 15 syns. The idea being that although over your normal syns allowance you are still in control and are less likely to say s*d it and let a bad night turn into a bad week etc. Whereas saving your syns would mean by going over on one occasion would reduce the amount of syns available the rest of the week. I hope that makes sense. When Life Throws You Lemons Make Lemonade0 -

I've been at target since the middle of August zippy. 2 weeks ago I was a lb under but since then....I've counted up 7 meals and lots of booze when I've been out and gone flexi. I've had a really good time with a lot of socialising (Hen do, wedding etc.) and although all my other meals have been almost syn free it's essential I stick to the plan whenever I can.
Flexi syns can affect weightloss, but once you're back on plan for a week then you should start losing again although to start with it might just be losing the weight you gained on flexi IYSWIM. I lost steadily, if slowly, all the while I was saving syns.
As for targets, I set mine straight away because I knew I wanted to get back to the weight I'd been all my adult life until recently. You don't have to set a target at all. If yours is 'get into the jeans' then that's fine. If when you get there you're happy then that'll be your target weight and you stop paying while you're in the range. If you decide you might try losing a bit more then you have to do it (I believe) in a minimum of 7lb drops.
How far off fitting into the jeans do you think you might be?0 -
When i fit them before i was a stone ish (and 2-3 lbs) lighter than now. I lent them to my best friend so ive not had them for a while to try on!!! They get on and do up, only they don't fit properly. I can't stand when people wear clothes too tight for them!
thats excellent you've stayed at target - very well done.
Lo bush - absolutely right. Setting an upper limit and sticking to it, then back on plan. I've only done that a couple of times, i can't seem to b e able to allow myself to go way over as i hate the thought of paying for it on the scales
It made me look out the photos tonight of how i looked in them - ill see if i can maybe get the nerve up to post a pic tomorrow of what im aiming for:oA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I had a better week this week - 2lb loss after 0.5lb gain last week. I reckon I've sussed out what to take to work for lunch now that it's getting colder and I don't fancy salad. I've got salmon, pasta and green beens tomorrow (leftovers) and have made a big pan of soup - Roasted butternut squash and orange pepper as I didn't have any red ones. It tastes lovely, but is very orange.I need to make a new list for 2014
think of something to put on it!:rotfl:
Try harder for 2014 as I never managed it in 2012 or 20130
