  • Me too with the out of date yoghurts - in fact my hubby buys them in bulk from Jack Fulton's when they are about to come to their end date and has been knows to buy a 4 pack of WW toffee & vanilla ones for 20p  We had about 4 packs of them to eat (very yummy) I think they were all eaten after the end date - and I'm still here to tell the tale!

Caz - I cook gammon the Nigella Lawson way with coke (she says full sugar but I use diet) and it's always sooooo moist (I hate dry meat) and it does keep well (well that's if the family dont call round at eat it for me!).

She says to keep the stock to use in a soup/broth, but I find it too sweet for me.

There should be a sign on the tank - ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK :D

    Helllloooo Lovelies

I'm back from the BIL's for the weekend again....hopefully next week he will have sorted out one of those Dongle?? (is that the word) things so I can use his laptop up there - so I won't be such a stranger to the thread in future :T

Had a pretty good week food wise and managed a 1lb loss on the scales :j (I was REALLY pleased with this result after all the celebrating of the 'magic ear' that went on for a couple of days last week )
I must however be vigilant this week as its *week due AGAIN:mad: and the fairies will be out in force trying to sabotage my efforts throwing naughty stuff at me from every direction.

EE for me all weekend got a lovely big slow cooker full of braising steak & onions with carrots waiting for tea with lots of green cabbage & sw roasties.....can't wait

Be good everyone have a good weekend :A

totally agree - England were outplayed! I don't know much about rugby but they looked slow to me - perhaps they could do with a look at their diet?

I miss you lot too :o :A Its just not the same talking to the dogs....I don't think they understand my sense of humour :rotfl:

The braising steak, well I don't really do anything special to it;) I just bought a pack with 4 decent sized peices in, and trimmed the edges of any excess fat (but it was lean stuff anyway)
Then chopped 3 onions and dropped the steaks on top of those into the slow cooker, sliced 4 big carrotts into chunky rings, put 1 bay leaf and a bit of black pepper then 2 knorr 'rich beef stockpot tubs' into some boiling water and poured enough extra to just cover everything.....then cooked all day.

I only stirred it a couple of times just to break the meat up towards the end of the day & the gravy had become nicely thickish so no need for any cornflour or anything :j

There is loads left so we will have it again tomorrow with different veggies (and Mr D wants a yorkie pud:mad::rotfl:git!) then I'l freeze whats left for a meal for me sometime if hes working late.
  • Yoghurts - once they are in the fridge I don't even look at the dates, just eat 'em. BUT yesterday the Co-op was offering 4 for £2 (Muller Light) and I spotted they had the passionfruit ones so I grabbed 4 then noticed the date on them was 7.10.11. That was THAT day. The other flavours all had about three weeks to go. I rummaged right to the back but all the passionfruit ones were on their last day. I popped them back and got 10 for £3 from tesco today. It's not right up there with the lump of meat "reduced" from £7+ to £8+ but it's close. I do think one has to keep a close eye on our local Co-op. But it gives me a larf.

Sorry, but tittering a bit at Dizzy calling Mr Dizzy a git :o)
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!

Well today I have been good, had half a grapefruit and then shreddies and a banana for breakfast. I had a salad at lunch with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, celery, ham, cottage cheese, a ryvita and salad cream for lunch, and I am just now cooking SW chips, eggs, beans and Sainsburys BGTY sausages for tea, followed by some grapes and a couple of plums.

Maman - thanks for the suggestion, is Lentil soup easy to make, I have red lentils in my cupboard, will definitely have to give that a go!

Margaret - I'll have to google the recipe for Nigella's gammon - that sounds really tasty too - I love gammon, so think I will try that one Sunday, then have the rest of the gammon during the week.

I'm enjoying this so far, but then again I am only on day 2 lol!

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend! :-)

    :-)

I do my gammon in the slow cooker with a carrot, onion, a couple of bay leaves and a few peppercorns. When it's done I fish it out and put it to cool. If you cool the stock overnight sometimes fat will float to the tap which you can remove. Then I add lentils, more onion and carrots and sometimes a diced potato to the stock and cook the soup. Sometimes I add celery and leek too, it depends what I have in. I also add the scraps of gammon that fall off when I'm slicing it (if they don't find their way into my mouth). When it's done I just mash it up a bit with a potato masher but you can whizz it smooth if you prefer. Season to taste afterwards as stock can be salty.

This is a lazy way but if you google lentil soup there are loads of recipes you can adapt which try different spices in them.
