Vent - God damn neighbours

If I run a hose on our drive it runs down and onto the neighbours and should go under his gate to the drain.
If the neighbour runs a hose on his drive it does the same.
It's as if the house is designed to do that, probably like the OP.0 -
I dont have a bad attitudeSeems to me like you've done nothing wrong maybe you just caught that neighbour in a bad mood......i would just continue what you've been doing if he wishes to contest it just ask him what the problem is calmly then you can resolve it.
People in this thread are overreacting to something that is quite small and petty i do understand this something you do with your son and thats fine but if the neighbour wants to take it further i would maybe just leave it and not bother with the hassle.
Reasonable people with a good attitude would go around witha a peace offering and discuss the matter like adults and try and form some compromise. So the question is OP are you going to behave in an adult way and set a good example for your son or sct like a petulant child.
Also to add if its a shared driveway it wouldn't surprise me if the deeds have specified the use of the driveway. Probably working on your car or washing it may be excluded. So if you are going to stupidly dig your heels in I would check this otherwise you may fall on your arse.
N,B. Looking forward to going on your ignore list'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

(Just saying what the OP wants to hear to make him feel better about his selfishness)
How exactly is it selfish to wash your own car on your own drive?
Anyhoodles OP. I'd pop an old towel down rolled up - so that the towel soaks up the water as it runs onto his half. You might need two.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
I say you take off and nuke the entire site from orbit.
It's the only way to be sure.0 -

I say that because next-door but one has some sort of bad OCD problem and is permanently cleaning his car for 6 or 7 hours at a time several times a week . The run-off soap and dirt collects outside my house and also causes condensation inside my car due to the water spray for hours on end. I haven't said anything to him because he clearly has a problem but I am tempted to give him a psychiatrists business card!
Awwww you're a nice neighbour
He'd probably worry himself sick if he knew it annoyed you!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

don't show your neighbour that site !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
quote
You must not allow run-off to enter surface water drains, surface waters or groundwater. This will cause pollution and you could be prosecuted.
You should only wash vehicles in defined areas where the wash water and any rainfall run-off can be contained.
If possible, direct the surface run-off from your vehicle washing area to an on-site treatment system. You may be able to reuse the water. This will reduce your water use and your impact on the environment. You can also discharge surface run-off directly to a foul sewer or combined sewer. Contact your water and sewerage company or authority to find out if you need authorisation before you discharge run-off to a sewer. You must comply with any conditions of your authorisation.
Thank god I've got good neighbours !!
3 cars washed most weekends !0 -
I think it has a lot to do with the manner the neighbour asked (if he was accurately quoted):
1. "In future wash your car in the road."
"Sod off and mind your own business."
2. "Excuse me, I don't know if you realised but when you wash your car on the drive the water goes here and causes xxx problem."
"Oh, I'm sorry mate, I'll wash it in the road."
:whistle:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Not read the whole thread but why shouldn't OP wash his car on his shared driveway? We have shared parking accessed by a shared driveway. If you can imagine, there is a one car width / 2 car length driveway - one side owned by us, one side owned by next door. This leads to shared parking - 1 space per house for 4 houses in front of their respective garages. So everyone has to pass over our/next door's access to get to their spot.
Hubby washes both our cars every weekend almost without fail. DH doesn't wash car himself to save money - it probably costs more with water meter - he does it cos he enjoys it. We couldn't use the road to wash car cos it is too narrow. However hose / hoover doesn't reach our parking spot so DH washes cars in the shared access bit. It does block it. However, he is very respectful to everyone, moves the car as soon as he sees someone attempting to get in our out and more often than not our neighbours tell him not to stop and park outside the front of our house then if he knocks for them after they will put their cars in when he's finished. He also doesn't do it if people are obviously busy (moving stuff in or out, got guests round etc).
He's been known to knock on all the neighbours' doors from time to time and wash their cars at the same time! Two of them we know well but the furthest two we only know in passing. Nobody has ever complained. Whether that is because they are too polite, I don't know but we asked if anyone objects and they say not. He does always sweep the water away after - mainly cos he doesn't want it treading into the house!
We got new neighbours recently (who own half the access) and we were worried about if the car washing would annoy them but last wknd they came and spoke to DH the whole time! Many on here might think we're selfish/rude but if someone complained, we'd try to compromise. Mind you, the others unload their shopping in the same place, wash their wheelie bins etc and we're fine with it too!
OP maybe you could put some towels in the middle to stem the water, offer to wash their car or sweep it all away after?
