It is true the retailers have been hit with bandwidth being eeked out with continuous visits to their sites for the elusive Touchpad. This has, as Rhiannon01 has said, caused a loss in revenue for these retailers...

Now the Palm Euro Store has just announce basically, they have no stock and that orders will be cancelled... https://eurostore.palm.com/epages/Store.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/PalmStore/Products/HP-FB437AA-ABU now, that's quite something seeing as they are owned by HP. Hmmm.... some of the HP pages are displaying the cheaper cost: http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/products/tablets/product-detail.html?oid=5107123 but, without VAT. One can wonder if this is a deliberate action to draw people into those pages and away from retailers such as PCW and CPW.... who have shut certain pages down... and, want their sites to run as expected... the HP pages could be a welcome diversion and helping save bandwidth for the major players who initially sold the stock.

I expect an announcement tomorrow from CPW re the Tablet being given away for free with orders (but this will be a 16gb version). Not sure what will happen with the pre3 or the 32 gig. I've given up looking for a tablet, it was more the chase if I am honest and now it's more of a skip, no a limp.... It's been great however watching this whole situation unravel... seeing crazy folk chasing them down, the rush etc... I can't wait to see what will happen tomorrow!

We also have the bank holiday around the corner... I wonder if we'll see some deals to entice punters in. I mentioned earlier today that the tablet could be used as a method of generating revenue, by offering it as an add on or a hook and pulling in custom... and it appears this is now what CPW is doing. Smart move.

Yes, it's been interesting to say the least (frustrating as well) - I've had over 10,000 pageviews of my HP Touchpad and HP Pre 3 retailer update pages in the last 3 days, and that's just on one very tiny out of the way site - I imagine the traffic web-wide must have been in the 100s of millions or billions of pageviews, just for 2 products!

VERY interesting... the great thing about this HP Touchpad for me is.

    1. I've discovered this site, the forums and the offers.

    2. How to analyse social media

    3. Some great monitoring tools for websites and notification tools - had I had them last Monday, I would have had a Touchpad and chances are I would not be writing this...!

    4. Filled my head with goodness knows how many little facts and developed an interest for consumer rights and gadgets (which I know a lot about anyway).

    All very worth it!

Am sure a lot of the retailers will be happy this time next week when the traffic flowing to their sites is actual traffic which will lead to an actual purchase involving a considerable mark up - as opposed to a low mark up and the hassle of bandwidth limitations alienating valuable purchasers.
  • Very clever of CPW. I'm sure those who thought they'd purchased one off them but had it cancelled will be annoyed by this. Of course they are a business.

I'm not hopeful that there is any further stock then. HP also have been denying they have anymore. I guess HP could be talking to a company who would off load anymore they may have, trying to broker a deal rather than sell them from their own site (perhaps wishful thinking), or I guess they could sell them to employees as they apparently did with only 500 being available to staff.

It's been a crazy time looking for one.

We got a case from Carphone Warehouse - think it was £17.50? Came today!

    Hi there
Is the case nice ? I have been looking for a discounted one but mostly sold out

    i'll keep looking
  • CPW had not "held back any stock of the TouchPad as part of a strategic move to drive revenues on future promotions."

Does that mean the other story isn't true about CPW giving them away 'free' or they just lying?
  • I ordered one from PC World early morning on the 23rd. It's still showing in the 'My Account' section but not been dispatched yet. I sent an email yesterday but no reply..

Am I likely to get it? Or will they probably just cancel the order?
