HP TouchPad

My Question to Tesco on their FB page:
Hello. Can you explain why some customers who have bought the HP Touchpad are not being given the discount that HP have levied on the Touchpad range? You are charging £349 but the price has dropped to £89. Can you provide some clarification? Thank you very much, appreciate it.
I got the following reply from Tesco (quite speedym has to be said):
'Hi Daniel, The HP TouchPad 32 or 16 GB we’re discontinued from sale as to when the price cut had come in as we had no stock. All the best, Peter-Customer car'
Clear as that stuff cows leave in a field me thinks...
Thanks for feeding back. Yeah that was quick! It seems a bit...half-hearted...?0 -

Just because I paid full price initially doesn't mean I can afford to spend that much on a tablet (a discontinued one at that) I can't afford an iPad (if I could I wouldn't be hear).
I took this route as I didn't have the time to refresh 20 online store all day long.
I also assume there were people who bought at the time without realising there was going to be a substantial price drop.0 -

I would also guess that there were people who bought the TouchPad from Tesco at full price before HP decided to withdraw the product from market.
I can't believe the greed of such rich people expecting to get a refund from Tesco just because their product has been discontinued and is therefore virtually worthless - well done Tesco, protector of the poor.0 -
I don't think this thread is a place to discuss wealth really, can we get back on point please?0

Those who can afford to buy it at full price, (which actually you clearly could afford to do as you did, although you obviously don't wnat to spend your money on that in the long run) have a distinct advantage over those who cannot afford to spend that money in order to gain in the future. By exercising this, they are keeping those who cannot afford it out of the running. Like I said, I understand it, but I don't like it.
I see it as certain groups taking advantage because of their wealth but just because a person did pay the full price, does not imply they have the money. They may have put it on a cc or something...
I think in situations like this we all want a bargain. Those with money won't bother with the hassle and just buy one outright. Those without, like myself, will wait and try their hardest to get one...
I think there is equal opportunity to get these tablets... if they go for the £89 versions... I wouldn't be able to afford the £400 odd quid at tesco... but I think if a friend loaned me the money and I thought it was a fair risk I would do it... doesn't make me a bad person and I don't think I am financially excluding others as there is opportunity for both...0 -

We could get into a debate about the capitalist world we live in but I dont agree with that so wont go there.
Because I had the money in my account doesn't mean I can afford to buy this product at that price. Many people would have purchased it on a credit card and a refund before the month is out means they have lost absolutely nothing.
Also please define rich and poor in this circumstance when we are debating a tablet which at best is an luxury product that you could live without. Not sure anyone could describe themselves as poor an be chansing a tablet even if its costs £89 or £115Spend now, Save Later!!!! :beer:0 -
I've ordered a 32gb touchpad from tesco direct at full price for in store collection (had confirmation its there ready to be picked up).
They won't charge my credit card until I pick it up and I've got 14 days to do that before they cancel the order.
I intend to leave it there until I know I'll get it for £115.
If that doesn't happen I'll just let the order lapse. I know I might end up without it but I wasn't going to buy one at anything like the original price anyway so I'm not that worried.0 -

Fair points above and each to their own.
As for wanting the thread back on track, perhaps people could stop moaning about Tesco not redcung their price on a product they no longer have any stock of. Surely you should all be gpoing to HP for the refund directly now.0 -

I would suggest that peoples' motivation for buying the discontinued product is irrelevant here - what is in question is the dubious ethical stance that Tesco has decided to take by refusing to refund the difference between the full price and the discounted price...
Bad PR decision.
I'm with Prodigal $on on this one.
Incidentally, I didn't go for the "purchase at full price" strategy - I wasn't wealthy enough.0
