I wanted one of these but didn't get one either, like the majority of people but I have to say I was so surprised when people were buying them at the full price a couple of days ago in the hope that the discounted price would be honoured. I'm glad I refused to take that risk. It is no good complaining now that Tesco etc. are not playing ball.

I do hope that you all either get a full refund or get it at the discounted price but I also hope you will learn from it in future.

That's why I didn't do it. You should get a refund but not entitled to refund difference.

You would expect the larger retailers to refund difference but there's no guarantees.

I tried since Saturday to get one, so I could have bought a load of them full price for everyone I know & their dog at full price before most people where aware. No way was I doing that. Instead I tried with the masses to get one when prices where reduced.

The whole thing is a fiasco. Retailers didn't or still don't know what they where doing. Most randomly reducing prices with no communication.

I expect there will be a few on ebay at slightly higher price soon after people find a new thing they want. Probably nearly new rather than brand new though.

Well I went and asked the question to Tesco direct... I didn't write what I put earlier but just asked the question... Hello. Can you explain why some customers who have bought the HP Touchpad are not being given the discount that HP have levied on the Touchpad range? You are charging £349 but the price has dropped to £89. Can you provide some clarification? Thank you very much, appreciate it.

This is on their FB page now and awaiting a reply... I will post back for you folk... FYI they have 300,000 fans subscribed to their site.

What I think is amusing about companies like Tesco is the considerable effort they put into getting customer "loyalty".

But it's a different story when their customers expect Tesco to reciprocate.

Isn't it time Tesco did the right thing for their customers: lower the TouchPad price in line with other retailers and refund the difference to those who paid full price for a discontinued item that is being offloaded by the manufacturers?

Everyone else has - except for some particularly unscrupulous dealers like play.com.

My thoughts exactly. It's contrary to anything you'd expect. I suppose when they get to their size they can be afford to be a bit complacent! Loyalty: on their terms.

I'm going against the grain here, but I don't agree with people buying things full price in the hope it will get reduced. Whilst I understand it, i think it is another example of the rich using their wealth to get richer and kicking the poor off the ladder. It is simply an indication of our culture and as always, he who shouts loudest wins.

Not really a risk as most people are aware of DSR and their statutory rights.

If you buy online or over the phone you have 14 day by law to obtain a full refund as long as product is unopen.

The reason I took the punt was that I didn't have the time to constantly monitor sites like this and constantly refresh. Even if I went as far as staying up all night to grab one of the reduced touchpads I would probably be in the situation of some of the Amazon buyers knowing my luck.

Those who took a punt with Argos got lucky and Argos have provided a refund for many. I just happen to have chosen the wrong retailer to take a punt on (again, crappy luck).

At the end of the day I will just wait until the day before 14 days are up and get a full refund and return the Touchpad. Nothing lost (apart from some time and about 2pence worth of interest) and nothing gained.

Re the Tesco farce. You'd be bonkers to keep the tablet at the given price... seeing as Tesco will not budge.

    You have two options.

    1. Wait for the new HP retail stock to arrive and purchase one (not 10, save some for other people... :)). Returning your Tesco Touchpad, unopened to the store requesting a refund (that will screw em up I think).

    2. Take the Tesco Touchpad back and spend a little extra on a touchpad from eBay.

Tesco are not wrong in charging you, despite it being unfair. If you are not happy I would return it and hold out for another model. It is not the end of the world and by taking it back, you'll be giving them a headache as they'll have to re sell them... and guess what, not many will pay the full price. They are treating you like fools so you should return the favour...

Well said. I think I'll be doing option 1. Mine arrived today from Tesco and its a shame they won't price match or refund but it was worth the gamble I guess. Nothing ventured nothing gained. But while its a shame tesco won't do it I don't think its particularly bad of them - just what I expected tbh.

My Question to Tesco on their FB page:

I got the following reply from Tesco (quite speedym has to be said):

'Hi Daniel, The HP TouchPad 32 or 16 GB we’re discontinued from sale as to when the price cut had come in as we had no stock. All the best, Peter-Customer car'

Clear as that stuff cows leave in a field me thinks...

Really?? You equate it to the rich kicking the poor?

Just because I paid full price initially doesn't mean I can afford to spend that much on a tablet (a discontinued one at that) I can't afford an iPad (if I could I wouldn't be hear).

I took this route as I didn't have the time to refresh 20 online store all day long.
