On Twitter Tesco was saying they are not refunding.

Nobody is forcing customers to pay anything...
Play.com confirmed they source their stock direct from HP - so there should be no issue in their claiming their credit back for any difference they sell the units at.
For all we know, they're trying to sell them at full price, AND claim credit back from HP.0 -

Yes they have said they are not doing direct refunds for those who have purchased at higher price.
The return and rebuy system still works provided you're inside their returns policy and they drop the price.
i.e. you've not opened the packaging and you're within 28 days of purchase0 -
Folks... also remember the HP Pre 3 will be coming out too this weekend... approx £50 quid - the phone will be given the same price drop as the tablet. There is another thread on this where I have given details... just to keep you all in the loop and give you the chance of getting one...
After the HP Touchpad... now the HP Pre 3 Smartphone. £49 down from £400! Sim Free!0 -

However it isn't so much a partial refund that people are after here:
1) We've purchased items this week at full price.
If the stores (e.g. Tesco) drop their prices within the next 28 days then...
2) we can return our devices for a full refund
3) repurchase the same device at the new reduced amount.
I've written a few things here tonight & have stated that if you don't open it Tesco will give you money back. I still didn't want to chance it though. It's a lot of money to me & I would rather as I did wait to buy 1 on the cheaper price.
Some people bought at full price and expect to get price difference. This is the gamble.
Was talking about retails in general not just Tesco0 -
Rhiannon,
Yes I understand. Would be nice if there was one central location that just said X many Touchpads are still in circulation and they are with Y retailer and they will be sold at Z price.
Oh we can dream...0 -

The problem with this flash sale is that is has created such wide national attention that the sheer number of people trying to buy one, and the speed they are doing it at has obviously caught alot of companies out and I'm not convinced that there has always been an 'official line' handed out by the management at the top for staff to pass on.
People must remember that if they have purchased an item at full price (despite any verbal 'agreement') then that price is the one they have to pay, unless they are lucky enough to get a refund for the difference ala Argos or Comet, say. I mean, I don't buy my shopping in Sainsbury now in the hope that in a few days time it'll be cheaper and go back and claim the difference.
The uniqueness of this case has seemingly made people go a bit radio and overlook the obvious.
(Not a personal attack, just saying in general!)0 -
Yeah totally, it's really shown how weak the infrastructure of the majroty of the internet is. Even Amazon barely held it together. I've read several posts noting the irony that HP will have provided many of these servers!
I figured when Argos announced their reduction Tescos would have too - seemed like one of the last major retailers to drop their prices. Have also read a couple of comments noting that Tesco removed its price match comparison with Currys when the Touchpad deal was announced. I can't personally substantiate that though.
If that's true about dropping price match that's so bad.
I guess if they get a load of TP's back I guess they could sell them at slightly discounted price & they would still go. Some people are paying up to £300 on ebay. Also not all retailers stuck by the price some added a little extra. We paid more than USA also

Yah, I saw the same the same tweet...
@androidgenus Hi there, we are not planning any refunds on HP Touchpad orders. The product is now discontinued.0
