As seequis says they don't have to follow HP giving back the money, it's up to the retailer. It means more money for them. As people bought full price they may feel they do not have to discount to sell.

Argos are not refunding difference for those who bought previously from last week. It does say only 1 per person & item is not returnable on their site though.

Have HP said the same about giving back the difference to anyone who bought one here in UK. I've only seen that for USA.

Best bet is DON'T OPEN AT ALL.

Call HP & if Tesco/whoever bought direct from HP try to get them to get the retailer to refund difference. If it was not direct it's not good news.

It's not HP's fault what happens after they sell them on a cost price.

Maybe they will give a refund of the item but they are not under obligation to resell again a the lower price to same person

Of yeah I agree! But surely that's just going to mean lots of returns to Tescos? And then they won't be able to sell them at ORRP anyway. I'm no company man tho so I'm probably missing something!

I wasn't that brave or rich to chance it.

    Rhiannon,

I understand that you and maybe others have concerns so I just want to take the opportunity to discuss these.

Simply put, there is no risk in buying any product from any store regardless of the situation provided it falls under that store's standard returns policy.

HP Touchpads from Tesco stores fall under Tesco's standard 28 day return policy for electronic goods for those that decide that they no longer wish to own the product, therefore there is no risk at all in not being able to get your money back.

From what I've read, HP in America weren't obligated to offer a refund to existing HP TP owners, it was more of a customer service/policy thing. No reason why they shouldn't do the same thing here (let me know if I'm wrong though). Agree tho...commercial law...yak!

Surely Tesco will realise they're about to get lots of returns if they don't discount it. And, once people do return them, it's not like they can sell them at the original RRP. Unless they're just going to send them back to HP or somewhere?

It was a nice touch of customer service from HP but I believe they gave money back from those who bought direct from them. HP gave the go ahead of the other retailers to give money difference to all who bought TP regardless of when sold. However retailers over there again didn't have to do it. My other half was lucky enough to have bought one from best buy in USA who has given him his money back although purchased before the discounted price. Well done to Best Buy having great customer service.

Obviously the higher price they sell for the more money they get. It's money vs customer service. You'd think customer service would win out.

As I said, it's a gamble that may pay off for those who buy full price

Shops have hidden T&C etc. For instance Argos it clearly says you can't return it. So if you bought full price, it IS a gamble that they will have great customer service & give the difference.

Maybe they will give to staff. I don't know what they will do with them, maybe send back to HP. Maybe they will come though eventually. It's taken some retailers longer than others to be clear about pricing, refunds, stock etc.

It's clear that serves are rubbish at trafficking such huge demand. It's up to individual shops to make their own rules. It took a long time for stores to decide to price drop. Retailers can learn alot from this experience.
  • Beware the links on twitter pointing to hewlett-packard.org.uk which is priced in dollars and every link except the one to buy links back to the real hp.com, very suspicious!

Of course it is a gamble that they would give you the difference on a previous purchase, I completely agree. But there is no risk in getting your money back and going back to square 1.

However it isn't so much a partial refund that people are after here:

    1) We've purchased items this week at full price.

If the stores (e.g. Tesco) drop their prices within the next 28 days then...

    2) we can return our devices for a full refund

    3) repurchase the same device at the new reduced amount.

So in essence, it's not a direct refund we're after, just a price drop.

YES, this is still a gamble because you need to be sure you can still get the unit back and they don't take it in for processing/reallocation.

Well more stocks are heading to the UK. T3 have tweeted it, albeit a rehashed article but it's a positive sign for those who have missed out and those who are unsure what to do re the Tesco farce... There has been speculation and, I am wondering if the carphone warehouse will be in the list of those receiving them and obviously PCworld/DSG as they have them listed....

Also, over the bank holiday period other tablets are going to be given a price reduction, not specific as to which and not as drastic as the Touchpad.

Fingers at the ready again folks and I hope those who didn't get one, do this time round... including myself. :)
  • Good to still see activity on here and especially focused around tesco.

I might take to twitter and facebook. Sure must be good idea to try and discuss this with them in a public media.

Not going to give up until either 14days is up or Tesco release public statement.

My job doesnt allow much time to keep at this though. sigh.

Keep at it guys - fight the power (lol)
