I'm here  don't feel too well today, like I'm coming down with some kind of flu (even though I've [STRIKE]suffered[/STRIKE] had the flu jab ), plus the nerve pains etc, so I'm a bit quiet IRL too :o

Oh boo! Hope it's something that won't stick around long. It probably doesn't help that you've been running yourself ragged with looking after your MIL.

Need to lay out all the Christmas presents tonight and wrap them all, ready for the family gathering tomorrow. Think it'll be the first time all my siblings and my parents will have been together for about 9years! It'll either be good, or hideous!

    Have fun!

    Congratulations Student_Mrs!

I am around too tonight, have a babysitting booked. I wrapped all the presents (I run out of wrapping paper at the last present but used neutral birthday wrap, I refuse to buy anymore wrapping paper this year) and put up the Xmas tree.

We've just been naughty and had a Chinese takeaway for tea eating.gif. I'm now sitting with "100 greatest toys" on mute on the tv while DH plays me Christmas songs on the piano. th_piano.gif.

Wish I had an ounce of musical talent but I'm tone deaf :)

    Oooh that sounds lovely! :happyhear

I wish we had a piano, we thought about getting one earlier this year but not enough room in our house :(

I am wrapping pressies tonight too, have pretty much finished the shopping, one or two bits STILL to get. Last year I was so organised, had everything bought and wrapped about two weeks before Christmas, but we've just moved house this year so I'm much less organised.

BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Student_Mrs!! That's fantastic news, I was only thinking this morning that there hadn't been any BFPs recenly, and it's great news to keep everybody positive, and we are all very very happy for you!! What a lovely Christmas present - hope you have a very happy and healthy pregnancy :)

    Congratulations student_Mrs!!!! Fab news. :)

I have just finished another of my headbands. I take 3-4 hours to make each one which feels aaages when I'm so used to sewing things. Knitting might be cheaper but it takes so much longer to make each thing.

    Anyway, here is the pattern:

I used a thin-looking yarn which had sequins dotted on it at intervals, called king cole Galaxy dk, a 50g ball which is 175 metres. I have weighed the finished product and they come out at around 12-13g each once finished so it should be just possible to make four headbands from one ball. However, I would definitely make the flowers first and then you can judge on the last headband if you might need to cast off early!

Cast on 17 stitches. (this makes a headband of three inches width, so if you prefer a thinner one use less, it is about 5 stitches per inch, but make sure it's an odd number.)

    Row 1: (K1, P1) rpt to end
    Next rows: repeat

If you cast on an even number you will need to alternate rows, (K1, P1) and (P1, K1) to make the moss stitch pattern.

Knit till your strip is 17 inches long, that was 154 rows for me, but it is easier to measure. This is less than your head but the band will stretch. Cast off.

When you sew it together, first put one twist into the band, so it is a mobius strip. Basically, put the ends together flat first, then take one end only and flip it over once. Sew it together like that. The twist goes at the seam and sould be worn at the back of your head under your hair. It makes your hair fall flatter at the back.

The flower pattern is here http://www.headhuggers.org/patterns/flower02k.htm it looks scary as there are no pictures, but it's easy, it is just increasing and decreasing on stocking stitch. I found each one took me getting on for an hour, as they are fiddly and I am slow.

Sew the flower together as per the pattern, then sew in some beads, then sew onto your band wherever you like (I like on the right temple just overhanging the edge of the band).

Considering the ball of yarn was £3 and I already had the beads, these are very cheap! 75 pence each!

Here are some pictures of the headband, the flower before I sewed it on, and me wearing it so you can see what it looks like on. Hope they're not too big!

I will definitely give them a go. Need to get started again and finish my booties off first.
