I'm wondering if one of you lovely ladies knows the answer to my question as I can't find any detailed information online. If not I will post on the employment/redunancy boards.
As most of you know I am being made redunant at the end of March. As our whole organisation is going references are going to be done by the government office that we belong to. Basically what our HR deparment are doing is supplying them with details such as job title, employment dates etc.
One of the sections is for number of sick days taken in the past 12 months. Now I know that pregnancy related sickness has to be recorded seperately to that of "normal" sickness. I was originally told that the time off i had for my last mc has been recorded as pg related and therefore won't be shown on the reference.
We have now been sent a copy of the template letter that will be used for reference and the section for sickness absences says that they should state if it was for pg related sickness!
Are they allowed to include that? I thought they weren't and I'm now worried that is going to heavily count against me when looking for a new job (I know employers aren't allowed to discriminate for such things but we all know it goes on and they will find an alternative reason not to give you the job!). I will have two incidences of pg related sickness and obviously I have no children so it doesn't take a genius to realise that they were mcs and the changes are high that we'd still be TTC!
Anybody know whether they are allowed to include it or not?

I know it shouldn't which is why I think it's daft that it should be recorded on the reference, especially after they told me it wouldn't

Yeah there are two. I am going to email them later, I was just wondering if anyone new whether they were allowed to include it or not before I did.

I think they are allowed to include it, provided that they differentiate between pregnancy related and normal sickleave.
What I don't know is whether they are allowed not to put it on the reference at all. I suspect they either have to put ALL time off for sick leave on, and differentiate for pregnancy related and normal, or put nothing at all on about sick leave, but might then be asked the question anyway. Otherwise, they are giving a misleading reference. Say, for example a woman has on her CV that she did a 6 month project involving new skills but in fact she was off with a pregnancy related illness for 4 of those 6 months. If the reference said she had no days sick leave, that would give a very distorted impression of her input on the project and the experience she has using these new skills, so the employer surely should either say 4 months off pregnancy related, or just not mention sick leave at all?0 -
Ems - I would say it should be recorded as it is a fact that you have been off & references must be factual.
You are quite right in that it shouldn't be considered by the next employer - but they may well find another reason to select someone above you (but I hope this wouldn't happen).0
