    I loved Animaniacs :D

I'm attempting to find my dad something for Christmas, while he's on my brain cos he's having an op tomorrow... why are Dads so damned hard to buy for??

  • I just buy mine sweets - that keeps him happy. What's your dad interested in- has he got any hobbies?

Does moaning, or constantly nagging that I "wouldn't be ill if I'd just sleep at night" count? ;):D

My Pops is on Atkins or some such milarky (only when under the watchful eye of my Mum though :rotfl:) so I think the bag of Thorntons special toffee I've already got him will get me in enough trouble as it is ;)

  • How about an Atkins diet pudding recipe book (if there is such a thing). So your mums happy because he's on the diet and your dad gets some treats.

Don't be disappointed, you didn't feel comfortable, and you're not giving up. Does your work do any kind of occupational health stuff-I work for the NHS and the counseller I saw was through the the Employee Counselling Service, I think a few big companies use them, or similar schemes, the NHS, local government etc. It was free and really good for me at that time. Everything is confidential and it doesn't go on any work records. Just another thought of a way you might be able to access services.

There is actually and the lady in HR said to me the other day if the counselling didn't work out I should give those guys a call. It's a BUPA run scheme, so not sure how much I'd get for free but it's worth giving them a call.

One of the best/most pertinent things my SIL told me was "be kind to yourself". Only you know what you're going to be able to deal with, and if the stress of worrying about going/dealing with that environment was more than any potential benefit/more than you could cope with right now, then that's ok. You will get there, in your own time and your own way. :) And it's not giving up, it's actually fighting - but for yourself and what you know is right for you. Take care of yourself atm, and everything else will fall into place. If your DH is anything like mine - and it sounds like he might be - he'll give you a nudge if he thinks you're giving up/in ;)

Thanks :o as I said above I might give the work funded on a call. I have also ordered a couple of books off the tinterweb which are sitting at the posts office because I missed the postman Saturday.
DH will definitely look after me, support me and cheer me up. Last night I was feeling blue and instead of giving me a hug he dragged me off the sofa and made me dance round the living room with him- the boy makes me giggle :)

Ooh see, bake in the oven risotto - that's definitely more my thing! I suck at risotto, although I love it, cos I don't have the patience to stirrrrrrrrrr forrrrreeeeeverrrrrrrr!

It is nice and easy to do in the oven. They have quite a few bake risotto recipes on the Good Food website. I do find the if you use a good non-stick frying pan you tend to not have to stir as much :)

Fingers crossed your your dad's op.
