Trying for a Baby Part 7

TTC40. We have 3 children, and still go out and travel. OK we don't trek round the Himalayas but we never did that anyway. But we do go abroad at least twice a year, and have done since our oldest was about 3 months old. Babies and children are good travellers if they start early enough!
We also go out at least once a week. We have a regular babysitter every Friday night. This is a relatively new phenomenon, but I wish I'd thought of it years ago! It makes a huge difference to our stress levels.
DH also still works ridiculous hours as and when needed, and also travels abroad for work several times a year. He works in the city and often gets home well after midnight. I gave up work when my middle child was about 2 as I personally couldn't cope with the demands of a young family and the insane work culture in my place of work, but I do know plenty of dual career families, whose children are perfectly happy and well adjusted.
It really only has to change your life in the way that you want it to. Most of us find that when kids come along we want to take the foot off the career pedal for a while to spend more time with them, but if that isn't going to make you happy, it is a perfectly viable option to work fulltime and have someone else care for your child during working hours.
Thanks for the reassurance!
I've never been happier in my career & am fortunate to know that we can manage financially whatever option we choose (if pregnancy happens).0 -
I think I'd be definitely be better off not working, but I like working, having a career etc.
I'd love to have a year off, but that's never going to happen:(
Childcare would be nightmare. Why is it so expensive?
Also, at what age can one leave kids at home alone? (not overnight, until DH comes home at around 7pm).0 -
13? lol. In fact no ... never!0

Is there anyway to work around your two working hours a little bit? I used to do my calls whilst they were asleep in they day and did most of my paperwork at night after my hubby was home...is that a possibility?0 -

I suppose aside from the actual age thats it legally acceptable it depends how responsible they are and whether you may arrive home to a messy tip!!!
Quick question for you ladies whilst I think on - I havent been tempting or looking for EWCM but I have noticed a watery sometimes EW CM the past day or so - does this just mean AF on way?0 -
Thanks Nicki - well the good news is that those are the general things that I spend anyway and they've all been accounted for in my budget.
As I'm the breadwinner and Hubby already has two children (which he rightly has to pay child maintenance for) there is no way that we'd be able to survive on just Hubby's salary. I'll therefore deinately need to go back to work.
Avergare full time childcare in my area is about £1,000 a month for a nursery (probably a bit more actually). We'll use a childminder as it's cheaper - maybe £850 if we're lucky but probably more like £900. Our mortgage is only £400 lol.
But it's just for a few years.0 -

 I haven't even looked into costs where I am. Don't want to tempt fate.
I opened my CBFM last night (will start using it next week). It refers to testing with the first wee of the day - does it matter if I've 'been' during the night?
I am thinking that I set the time i.e. 7.00am, but if I go at 3.00am I don't test that but wait until 7.00am (or within three hours).
I will be reading the manual again - but you guys are far easier to ask!:T0 -

I know what you mean about tempting fate as I feel that's what I've done lol.
Although I knew childcare was expensive and we've had to delay starting a family until our finances were in order.
I know they say you can never have enough money to have a baby and that everyone has to make cut backs but cutting back to find £900 per month would be quite tricky :rotfl:
We're fortunate that in the past couple of years our salaries have increased and we've cleared our debts. Just paying our loans off early meant that we were £500 per month better off.0 -
I've looked and in our area it's about £30-£32 a day for nursery or childminder. I don't see it so much as tempting fate as planning ahead - needed to know we could afford it before we started trying (and as it turns out we can but it's the incentive we need to really destroy our debt)0

We had our first rumpy pumpy last night on cd 10 more again tomorrow and then every day until temp rise. Phew knackered just thinking about it!
It wasn't good sex lol. But it was functional. I was tierd and a bit sore and my pre seed hasn't come yet. But he still wanted to ahem "finish me off" so I figured i'll let him as it means longer lying there with the spermies swimming up lol.:D0
