previous owner won it for £1900 but didnt turn up

after some negotiations i got it got for £1320, stereo/cassette doesnt work, but im going to replace that with an an aftermarket any how, some minor scratches/scuffs on bumpers and alloys could be better, but drives smooth as on the 100mile journey home.

    How much!?!?

Cracking little car and a proper bargain if you dont need to do much to it. I would happily pay 2k+ for one

yup, he had a trailer load of cars delivered and needed space (has 40-50 cars on site), so made £20 on the sale to clear a space = me one happy chappy. (That said I also got them to top up the oil/ coolant and valet it too so they prob made nothing)

6k oil service reminder is on so that needs doing, as is the brake indicator so pads prob worn or just non oem parts without indicators on. Gonna get a full service on it any how, as no service history came with it.

Did a text check hpi check which came back clear, no damage, resprays etc and said 3 owners. Ill will have to query that with the hpi company tomorrow though as when I checked the V5 it said 9 previous owners... ! thats like 1 a year average lol

intermittant airbag light which i suspect to be the passenger seat sensor ( a common fault apparently on these), so gonna check it with a fault reader and if it is, fit a bypass sensor (£15 on ebay) to make the seat think some one is in the seat all the time. only had 1 key toom, so may get another made/ programmed.
so I had some room for discussions on price, either way a good deal i think.

any thoughts on the plates though ?
  • Whats the matter with the plates???
    EDit;theyre fine.
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.
  • Nice looking little Beemer.

The brake light, is it the ABS light?, if so check the NSR ABS sensor, that's often the one that goes wrong, not expensive from the usual outlets....it sometimes puts other warning lights on too but blowed if i can remember which ones...edit...i think the speedo sometimes packs up too when that sensor goes.

Is the rear wiper spindle seized, it looks to be parked in the wrong place....if it's not make sure you dismantle the mechanism and gease it up, especially the spindle, they get wet inside and rust solid.

I'm going crosseyed by the way trying to get all the page in.

If I had a quid for every time a trader told me similar... :rotfl:
He made something, but you got it for a good price and he didn't make much. Correct me if I'm wrong but the advert I read suggested it was untaxed, so that's an extra £260? straight away. The full service will be a good few hundred more and probably so too will the repairs to fix the few issues it has that have been identified, so probably approaching the 2k mark as its true cost, but still a good deal.

The plates look OK spacing wise but I can't see the postcode of the plate issuer / BS mark on the front plate. Pretty sure this is technically a fail for the MoT. Or it may be there and I just can't see it in the photos.

yeah untaxed £144 for 6 months this morning ooh! i naughtily misread it as 31/08/11 when it was 31/08/10 that was still in it, with about 10 other discs, so drove it home untaxed .... ooops !! MOT till April 2012 though.

the Cars were being delivered while I was there, and he showed me the BCA invoice for the car (there were other cars on it too) - so he was actually telling the truth - i take things with scepticism too usually but he wasnt lying this time ! Was so busy there, he had his 10 year son moving the cars around the site too. was a bit funny / scary seeing him move c200, rx300, xjr turbo charged etc, but it also wasnt his first time !

plates have postcode on them at the bottom with issue name on the rear one, but the front one is indeed blank
The concern I had was that the plate should read ******, didnt fancy getting pulled by some eagle eyed copper

Having checked the manual, its not the ABS light its the brake pad warning light so hopefully no fear there, just that they need doing.
Yesh noticed rear wiper seized last night, is that a simples one to fix or just replace it ?

    gonna resize photos now ;)

    Ahh thats better..

It's a simple enough fix, just that the mechanism is a ridiculous price, several hundreds IIRC.

The spindle siezes and the worm drives chews the plastic gear up at the top of the motor....i suppose in theory if you could find a similar set up you could mix and match but it might be a fruitless fiddle.

Get searching for a used one, it shouldn't happen, if those who could afford them new, or the overpriced service depts, just oiled the spindle now and again this would never happen...the hollow spindle post should have been stainless steel, the rear washer jet passing through it ensures the spindle is constantly wet and rusts.

Still a nice motor though and in a good colour, SE spec by the look of it with the reversing sensors, lot of money that car new.

When it needs rear tyres get ones with good wet grip, even with the traction control working properly i've had the back end out far too easily with a 320d version to which had been fitted ditchfinders.

I think the jag was probably a better car. Slightly older but with less needing doing and less potential for bills
