My car was recently classed as a cat c total loss after some one ran in to me on a roundabout,

so ive been looking on ebay / car auctions at bmws 2001 + etc but fell upon this car and the low mileage led me to put a bid on, which actually won it .

Ive yet to pick it up and the dealer has a policy of if you see anything you dont like about it all even the colour, you can walk away without penalty.

now i know its gonna be a killer for fuel economy, put i think my plan is to keep it for a little while and sell it on or trade in towards something else.

Its a 1999 V reg S-TYPE V6 SE with colour sat nav, FSH, 1 Previous owner, and only 52800 miles on the clock, which i won on a no reserve auction for... £1270

According to the valuation on vauxhall.co.uk, that's around trade-in price, so not too bad.

A lot of car for the money, you get some real bargains on bigger "prestige" cars, the only question in my mind is whether there's been any accident/repair and the interior looks a bit tired for 58k miles imho......

Autotrader has similar cars at similar prices, so it's not far off the mark.

have done a hpi check and its come back no record of damage, 1 owner and for age mileage should a lot lot more...

im going to get the v5 details so I can check past mot history (and mileage) but yeh thought a lot of metal for the money when I had been looking last week at an 01 punto for £1k with 60000 miles ;)

    mmm... ok

have just checked the mot history mileage check out but from the last one:
    Date of test:
    24/09/2010
    Certificate issued (Pass)
    Test expiry date:
    27/09/2011
    Advisory Notice issued

Nearside Front Suspension arm has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.G.3)

Offside Front on limit Suspension arm has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.G.3)

    Hand brake reserve travel,

might sell it on, trade it in before needs new MOT i think... or should i walk away given its gonna have suspension problems...

Stick a DVLA private plate on for £250, convert it to Autogas and run it till it dies!! My mate has a garage and all people want nowadays is 1.2 litre runarounds for the fuel consumption!!

It's a huge great 12 year old gas guzzler, nobody wants them any more. Everyone wants a 1.2 Corsa or a Prius or some crap like that.

Seconding the LPG conversion.. On a car like that the payback will be a lot quicker.

Depends on the car and the mileage being driven. Cost £1600 to do my GFs car, which was only worth a bit more than that (1994 Nissan 200SX). It's already paid for itself due to her long distance commute.

It'll cost about £1750 for a competent and reliable bloke to convert.

The thing about LPG is not to look at the pure costs involved, if you want only the cheapest form of travel buy a motorised 1000cc shoe...and enjoy er hang on i'm thinking deeply here....hour later...er nothing about ownership save boring everyone around you with tales of how good on fuel your tin shoe box is.

Alternatively with that Jag you have bought yourself a beautiful car that should be a pleasure to own and drive, it's old enough to benefit from reasonable VED rates and insurance shouldn't be too bad.

If it's as good as it looks, get it LPG'd and enjoy several years of comfortable motoring for roughly the same costs as a 3 cylinder Corsa, probably the most horrible car and engine combo ever made.

I feel really guilty going into the Autogas site and paying around 70 or 72ppl...:) and running my lovely old 3.2 litre Benz for supermini money.

edit...The only thing that bothers me is ''code'' is showing on the sound system screen, make sure it's coded when you go to get it.

If you owned a W211 Benz, it would be on it's second and possibly third set of front bottom ball joints by this mileage.

I wouldn't give those advisories a second thought, find a good Jag indy and get it checked over.
