a related question, when i bought my 2002 focus i got 2 key 1 normal and 1 with button on it but none of them work, would this key need programme also?

Neither key works? Car wont start? Not just a flat battery or dodgy starter motor?

    What exactly happens?

  • Anyone help me too?

Have a 2006 Ford Focus (MK2) that only came with one key (non-remote). I want to get myself a remote key and i just wanted to check the process.

Timpson have told me they can copy my current key for £75 to supply me with a second non-remote key (I assume this will be coded to work with the immobiliser?)

If i were to supply Timpson with a new uncut remote key off eBay that contains the chip, would they be able to code and cut this for me so that it works with the immobilser? (and i can program the remote function myself using the process in the manual?)

    Any help much appreciated!!

You have a couple of options you could go to the main dealer and have them put a new key in. probably pay about £160 for a remote key or find an auto locksmith who can make you a new remote key I usually charge about £120 for a new ford 3 button remote all cut and coded.
if you let me know where in the country you are I may know someone who can help you.

see this is what gets me, the cops don't want to you run your car clearing the windows of frost, but they'll charge you if you try to drive away with limited vision through the windscreen.

not every car has a heated front windscreen, but, IMO it should be standard in this country

my girlfriend has bought an 02 fiesta, it only has 1 key, phoned up my mates dad who works at a ford garage and he said the car would have to be connected to the main ford server to generate a code, he also mentioned they are now charging £65 an hour

phoned up a locksmith in Dundee and he said he'd have to see the key first to see if they can copy it

    For info.

One key on 2010 Fiesta stolen in a handbag with address.

Cost of new key and programming second key to new one £199 Ford Main Dealer .

Cost of new locks £500!! Needed as thief knows address.

But £500, too much. So have to leave nothing in the car at home as thief can gain access.

    Morals of story.

    1) Get key insurance. Home and car policies will not cover. Try CPP credit card insurance as they cover car keys.

    2) Leave license in car . I don't know of insurance that covers new locks, so avoid carrying address with keys.

PS Get house accidental damage as main policy does not cover non -accidental causes not listed.

Ouch We normally de-program the stolen key's so that wont work anymore and program in a new one.
