    Hoping someone can help here.

I have an X Reg Ford Galaxy with one remote locking key that works fine. I recently lost the second key.

Not wanting to pay Ford's outrageous prices I went to a local locksmith who made a second key for me. He tried to program it and was successful insofar as it operates the central locking. However, it won't start the car so presumably has not overcome the immobiliser. Very decently, he let me keep the key without charge.

I am therefore looking for someone in the London area who will be able to do whatever is needed to this second key so that it operates the ignition.

    Any ideas?

Search for Ricky at bowlocks in london you may have to go to him but he will be able to program it for you. it sounds like your guy was using the wrong type of chip.

Are you able or in the know of who does Renault key cards in the Surrey/Kent areas?

could i buy a blank off ebay and get the key cut to fit the locks and also get the card programmed to the car?

I've only got one card key and if it goes missing i'll defo be down !!!!!! creek with no paddles
A colleague of mine went to a bloke in Essex/Kent I think, charged him £25 for it (reprogramming card for his Laguna), not bad considering Renault wanted something like £160! If you still need the name I can probably find out for you!

The dealer is the last place i would visit for a new key with the optimistic prices charged there.

I just got a new key for my Skoda which is the exact same keys as Audi & VW use - full cost was £65 and it works perfectly.

First off make sure you have the SKC (four/seven digit code that came with the car on a little loop) There is a way to get this if you dont have it!

Second step is split key in half if it's a flip key to get to the product code, If it's not a flip read around some forums to find out your part number location on the remote, Also get the key part number to make sure you order the right blank key.
My codes for comparison - Remote = HLO 1J0 959 AG Blank key = HAA

Order full key(remote and blank key) from ebay with same part numbers you find on your key ,If you cant find remote locking and key together then buy a seperate blank key and seperate remote making sure the remote and key codes match your codes.
Both as an average you should get for £30 - 40

Get the key cut at any locksmiths that will do the job for you - approx £10 - £15

When you end up with a full key you can then reprogram the remote - instuctions available online, For the actual key to immobiliser programming you can register on any vw,skoda ,audi forum (briskoda is one) that has a list of users with vag-com near you. Most are happy to do the reprogramming for £10 to £20 and takes 10 to 20 mins

Total £60 to £70 which is 50% of the standard dealer price albeit for a bit of effort ,But the money is better in your pocket at the end of the day

If you dont have the SKC read around for vag-tacho ,Personally i got Vag-tacho for £27 (needs a laptop to connect to car),Read my SKC and programmed the key myself!

Sorry for the rant slightly tired ,Bright side to my rant is a possible saving of both a few hours without the car and also a few quid:j
same with ford owners aslong as you have the red key make sure u get the right coulour nibbe and you have the RED key or if the supply you with a different coulour for newer fors and all you have to do is turn the red key to second position (do not turn on) the red light next to the clock should turn on then off and then the red light should flash again then you have 10 seconds to do the same with the new key but leave the key in until the light flashes again when its gone back to 0 position
  • it works i purchased from ebay 2 key blanks for 10 pounds took them to a local locksmiths they cut the keys for 20 pounds total the keys only open the doors but when used to start the engine the imobiliser will not be deactivated , to get past this i opened the master key inside there is a small transponder i cut the key with a hacksaw i did not want to try to remove the chip as i might damage it , i unscrewed the casing around the ignition and in the plastic moulding found a slot this would fit in i held it in place with blue tack
on my ibiza the transponder had to very close to the ignition it may not be the case for your car you can experement ,this will disable the imobiliser , but i do not think my 10 year old ibiza is a target for car theifs and they do not know it has no imobilise.... if this is to complex then keep the master key in the car and use the spare to open the door , then the master to drive , if you loose your key the spare door key will open the door and the master will be inside job done

Dont forget to tell your insurance that you have bypassed your immobiliser of if you car is nicked you wont have a claim.

So then someone steals your car and takes the key, Insurance dont payout as there was no damage. And you cannot collect the car without a key to start it.
Or they do want to payout but when you send them the key and it doesnt work on the car they will backtrack.

If niether key works but they both used too. I would think that it may be the reader or another problem unrelated. what fault are you getting?

And don't buy a second hand (from a car dealer) or new Ford without insisting on 3 keys as part of the contract, and make sure you have the keys before taking the car from the premises.

I only ever had 2 keys with my 2008 Fiesta which I bought in 2008. Mind you I never lost/broke/damaged the key so I guess everything was cool!
