OP
It's easy, just look the key model up on eBay, there should be loads of new and used remote keys on there for your make of car/model.
Once you find one, bid, win and then when you get it just get a new blade cut at a key cutters.
Don't get main dealer fool you into buying a new one, or a small cutting shop.
You can easily find the reprogramming for the key on Google or a like.
Simple, total cost will be between £30-£80 depending on make and model of the car and type of key and of course, how cheap you get it on eBay, so could be cheaper!
Good luck0 -
can you be more specific? key cutting is easy, but it's coding it with the immobiliser which is the hard part
Most have programmers like myself that can code most keys inc Volkwagon infact they are one of the most common jobs that I do.
As for the Alfa keys for £30 I bet its just a blank kry that comes .ie it wont start the car just open the doors and I cut those type of keys a lot cheaper than £300 -

Just got a local shoe repair place near me to do a spare for the Ford Galaxy we just bought for £30. He did have to read the chip with a machine and order the correct key and chip which took a couple of days. However £30 is much better than the £80 I would have paid at a ford dealer.0

And how gutted will they feel when the £80 key from ebay turns out to be scrap because it cannot be reprogrammed. Please dont advise if you dont know the subject as this site is not moneywastingexpert.com;)
With a due respect Locknut I am not in the trade as a key cutter, which I believe you are therefore, I am able to give a buyers option to this subject.
I have brought a number of remote keys from eBay, which were second hand, two for my Ford Mondeo and one for a Honda Civic, all three were reprogrammed by me, someone not very tech minded to all the latest codes etc.
And, they are no where near £80 on eBay, the OP could pick a remote key up second hand on eBay for anything between £10-£40 MAX.
If you lose a bid, there will always be another key on their within a day or so, so you won't miss a bargain.
I know this isn't moneywastingexpert, hence why I stand by my advice and to my option, the OP would save A LOT of money by buying a second hand remote or even picking a brand new one up from eBay that someone did not get round to using.
If in a rare circumstance you find the remote key does not work, you are able to re sell it, and sometimes with a profit to be made, you are on a no loser.
OP, my advice remains the same, I think having a little look on eBay, could really help you out and you may well be surprised just how much money you save, the only thing you will need to do upon getting a second hand remote control for you car is get the blade cut, should be between £10-£20 from most key shops.

Some good adviced on this topic...
Bought a Ford Focus this morning and it only came with one key... Timpsons were unable to cut a spare one as it was a "crypto" key and referred me to the main dealership who quoted me £230 + VAT
After following the advice given earlier I searched for some auto locksmiths using Yell and I stumbled across one who is going to do it for £100 incl. so it pays to search around and stay away from the Ford dealerships0 -
i did a search around before but no one local to me seems to be able to do a mk5 golf0
