i havejust bought a fiesta 2001 plate & it only came with 1 key which is a bit worn, i need to purchase a new one but ford are qouting me £120 + cost of key.

is there a cheaper way of doing it, i only have the plain black key not a master key.

    thanks

most auto locksmiths charge between £55.00 to £75.00 including VAT and Programming usually only takes 10 minutes
and your car would not have had a red master key as by that time it had been changed to the newer system requiring two original keys to program a 3rd.

I bought a Fiesta 04 plate last year and it came with 2 normal keys, but no remote key. I want to get a remote key for the car, how much would this cost, and would it be easy to program myself?

Are you sure it has remote locking, many 04's do not.

Well, it says something in the manual about it, so I assumed it would? How do I check if it does have remote locking?

My Picanto's manual mentions remote central locking whereas the one I have doesn't even have central locking. Manuals are written for all trim levels.

It'll depend what trim level your car is (Studio, Style, Zetec, etc) - there's 14 2010 Fiestas at my work that do not have remote locking, they are Studio spec.

The trim level is Zetec on mine. I'm aware that manuals tend to be generic (as there's a few things like parking sensors etc which I don't have) but I always thought that in cars these days remote central locking came as standard?!

    Definitely not.

I'd expect it on a Zetec though

Try putting your reg into http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

then click "There are some minor features....." and see what it says.

For our work cars as mentioned before "Fiesta 2008-, Duratorq 1.4 TDCi (68PS), Moondust Silver (Metallic) " it says "With Central Locking System " - but this is not remote.
  • I had similar problems with a replacement key required for a Mondeo Zetec, as my keyfob had packed up and the key blade on it was worn and had stopped working. As a result I was down to the key with the blue tab on the corner and if that wore out I was locked out of my car.

I went to a couple of key cutter/shoe repairy type places who wouldnt touch it. I then went to Timpson who said they could cut me a copy of the blue cornered one along with programming for £75. Not impressed I went to Ford for a laugh to see how much they would want, £152. I got the laugh I expected.

After much searching on the net and no joy I had almost resigned myself to having to pay the £75 to Timpsons until I gave a locksmith a few miles away a bell. Aye, he says, I will be able to sort something out, be around £5. Just come down. So I went in and what he ended up doing was taking my keyfob apart (they split in two parts if you put a screwdriver in them.) He had a blank uncut bottom part sitting as stock on his shelf which was made exactly for my fob. All he then done was copied the cutting of the blade from my remaining good key and clipped it onto the fob where the old part had been. Total cost a fiver, time taken less than ten minutes. Thank god for honest joes like him out there. He even told me Ford use him from time to time to cut keys for them as he is so good. I would not be surprised if they key I was quoted £152 for by Ford would have ended up being cut by him for them anyway and passed off as their own. :)

I completely forgot about this thread until I got a reply about the message above. In answer to your questions, mine comes up as:

    "Fiesta/Fusion 2002, 1.4L Duratec 16V EFI DOHC (75/80PS), Moondust Silver (Metallic)"

But nothing about central / remote locking.
