Easily solved, Buy a Ford Corsair, Why not just use the 50p to open it? And drive to the dealers?

  • my boyfriend is a auto locksmith and from listening to his calls you would be much better of calling a auto locksmith most of them offer 2 services a mobile service where they come to you and make your keys on site but they have to charge for labour and parts. they also let you come to them where you just pay for the key he charged £35 for a new key to a fiesta yesterday the lady came to the house and ten mins later she was done, if you lose your keys it will be alot more expensive than getting a spare key made
  • Crikey - what a rip off keys are now

I have a Rover 400 I wonder if my key costs a bomb to replace too :S - I have looked after it well but only got one with the car.

I remember my last Rover key cost me £2.50 to get a replacement.
That was for my 1974 2200 P6 Auto though ;)

I would run a classic every day if I knew it to be reliable enough to guarantee a journey to work and home each day.

Old/classic cars are being stolen for scrap metal..... :/

That is to say, the one's that didn't get traded in for nothing during the govt scrap-page scheme.

  • My wife lost her keys and we called Audi dealer, they quoted us an outrageous price and said we needed to get the car moved to the dealer and would also have to wait 5 days for the work to be completed.

So we searched for alternative and found AutoKey Squad

They came out 2 hours later, cut a new key at the roadside and coded the key etc for half the price of Audi. Keys still working 1 year later :-)

Should give them a go, there are so many cowboys out there
  • Is anyone able to recommend someone in Derbyshire area to supply and recode a Renault Megane Key Card?

Renault want £145, althought there is someone in Tamworth who can do it for £99

    Thanks :)

i needed a replacement key today [the blades worn but still works, just ] nissan key, i just wanted a key cut, i didnt want anything extra, timpsons informed me they cant take my key chip out and put it in there blank key, and the only service they offer is the reading of my key chip and transfering it to there new cut key , i offered to take my own chip out and not to worry about it, they then said that there keys have the " blank" chip glued in and its not possible to swap my chip over into the new key, i explained to him in a kind way do i look stupid ? its a sales car and i am quite capable of doing the job and chips are not "glued" in, when he said the price was, wait for it, £140, i fell over, got up, and walked out...

I have unfortunately lost the only key for my dads car.

Any suggestions? =| surely can't be as bad as getting the car scrapped? It did only cost £800 but my dad loves it.

Feeling so guilty but don't know what to do

I need to replace a broken key for my Alfa 156. I have been given a cost, by the dealer, of £190. This is unbelievable..............
Their excuse is that the keys are computer chipped, no longer can you just go and get one cut.

I cannot afford this. Is there a cheaper alternative.

    You comments will be appreciated.
broken key as in the metal bit (blade) or the fob? the chip is in the fob the blade can be cut anywere and put back in the fob. for the fob a replacememt can be reprogrammed by local garage with the right diagnostic equipment where to get the fob from? try a alfa specialist

like interservice in leicester they might be able to find you a fob

Can't offer any advice, can only sympathise and hope someone has a solution as tried to get spare keys yesterday for both my kids cars.

One has a Seat, that was about £100 and takes 5 days to come from spain.
The other has a Ford Ka, that has to be a minimum of 3 keys at £25 each and £100 plus labour to reprogram the immobiliser, and VAt, so looking at about £250!
get one cut at shoe shop and pull the transponder out of the old key for ford (red/black or blue tab) the seat should split in half transponder chip looks like a tiny glass cylinder
