Have been fascinated by this thread, everyone is so inventive and sensible! love it

Today I have used up from the fridge:-
    • cooked cauliflower (made into cauliflower cheese for lunch)
    • cold mashed potato (fried up and served with cauliflower cheese)
    • dismembered the left over chicken cooked on Monday night, put meat in freezer and made bones into stock, then chopped and added 2 limp carrots, a couple of onions starting to sprout, 2 sticks of celery, a clove of garlic and a handful of pearl barley and made soup for the kids for dinner this evening - which I served with croutons made from the end of a home made loaf
    • potato water is going into the bread maker when I put a loaf on overnight
which just left one lonely cold small yorkshire pudding which I am eating as I type...result = nothing in fridge except fresh veg bought today, milk, butter, cheese, home made yogurt and eggs :T

    I need to confess!

I did a roast chicken dinner tonight so it'll be leftover chicken something for tea tomorrow. I've got a jar of tomato sauce for chicken so think I'll use that. Going to spice it up a bit with some sweetcorn and peas and anything else I can find!!!!!!

Welcome to all the newcomers - I love this this thread because you get so many idea's!!!!!!!

Have a good evening everyone x

Dont forget; save the chicken carcass (not the stuffing!) and make some stock for a tasty lunch.

Boil carcass for 20 minutes with a little herbs, stock cube, onion and garlic.

Simmer for 90 minutes on a VERY low light stirring occasionally. Cover pot to prevent evaporation.

Allow to go cold. Stand in fridge overnight. Skim off fat next day. Add a diced carrot, diced stick of celery, and some dried barley. Boil for 10 minutes. Simmer for 45 minutes. Salt and pepper to individual taste.

Should be fine for lunch or starter for two.

Dont waste anything, always have a crack at converting it into something tasty!
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

At the moment i have two nearly black bananas and four wrinkled plums to use and four yoghurts that have two days before their sell by date. I need to think about what i can do with these.

Would anyone like to join me with this challenge?

Plums?? You've given me a fresh though on fruit wonder if you can make jelly on the fly with them preferably using residual heat from the hob. Border line apples would go well with any pork too.

Don't fritter away those bananas though.:rotfl:oooh no!!:rotfl:thats got to be my worst:rotfl:

I have little food waste but I can still improve.

    I'll join.

Well, tomatoes and oregano and of course the pesto are all ideal with pasta. The chickpeas I assume are dried? If so make sure you soak them overnight, then boil hard for at least ten minutes in fresh water, discard that water (remove any grey scum from the top as they are boiling) and bring back to the boil then simmer until tender. once they are cooked then the world's your oyster really - I like chickpea and butternut squash curry. Then there is humous of course...you could always throw them into a stir-fry or a salad.....

not sure if you could do this with dried chickpeas as I've only used tinned but perhaps if they had been soaked it might work................
drain them well and dry on kitchen paper, spray with oil, mix whatever spices you prefer - curry powder or cinnamon and sugar work well - put everything in bag and shake. Then put the peas onto a baking tray and shove into med hot oven till crispy. They don't take long and you need to jiggle them a bit.

Just a thought - it might work well in a frying pan instead :)

Nothing to throw away today as I have made a vegetable curry using up a manky swede and some carrots that had started to go mushy - cut the mushy bits out and had plenty left. Added some potatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, mushrooms and courgette, a tin of tomatoes and also used up some of a jar of curry paste I found at the back of the cupboard.

Chick peas are lovely in a curry - if I had some I'd have thrown them in too

I have extended the challenge to the bathroom - my son never uses the last drop of his shower gel or shampoo and there are loads of nearly empty bottles in the bathroom. Last night I rinsed three of them out into my bathwater and had a lovely cocktail of Lynx bubbles, going to try it again tonight with the two shampoo bottles that are left.

Unfortunately I've had to throw away quiet alot today as some muppet left the spare fridge door open. I'm really trying not to think how much money I've wasted but tomorrow another day and I'm planning to do a meal plan tonight so I don't buy anything we don't need.

Has anyone got an easy recipe for a veggie curry? My lot are all carnivores but I would really like to try them with a veggie version. Plus chicken is getting expensive so it would save some cash if I could get them to eat it.

    Many thanks
