You can certainly use the salad which expires today in sandwiches tomorrow. If you want to be extra safe, wash it (there are some micro-organisms which like salad leaves).

Salad has to be one of the easiest things to see if it's OK or not.....first off, seal the bag well and pop into the salad drawer of your fridge overnight. Tomorrow when you're ready to use it open the bag and stick you nose in - have a good sniff - if it smells at all "rotten" then you might want to discard it, but I''d be amazed if it did with it being only one day over. If you want to be totally certain then tip the lot onto a plate and examine for any nasty looking or slimy bits. The stuff that still looks fine, is fine. Easy as that! ;)

I always eat salad after the date...unless it has started going brown and stuff :)

Anyway yesterday I made a lasagne and cut it into 6 portions and froze 4 and I made my own bread buns, and I also used up the leftover mince for a spag bol dish which I froze too.
I made a grape sponge and custard (but a big one so it should last a few days, not sure if I can freeze it though??)

And I had 4 egg whites leftover so I froze them in my ice cube tray rather than throw them out so I will have to have omelettes one day!! lol

I feel so proud of myself! This will also help me with the Grocery Challenge! :)

Re Salads. I grow my own green leaves, but in the winter when I don't have them in the garden I've come to the conclusion it's a huge waste of money buying the bagged stuff as it deteriorates so quickly. If you buy a whole lettuce, you can dunk it for a few hours in cold water if it starts to look a little limp and revive it so that nothing is wasted. And buying a white, red or Savoy cabbage for salads is even better as they keep for ages in the fridge and stay crispy.

I don't like b&b pud, but if we have dodgy rolls, we use them as toasties. As long as there's enough cheese and some pickle, they'll definitely get eaten.

Forgot to say :wave:Back Atcha Dawny, & many thanks for the recipe--it's stored away for when I actually get round to doing it:whistle: I've always been the same; get a tasting for summat but it takes a good few weeks for the craving to be strong enough for me to act on it! Wish it worked that way with me weight-loss:embarasse

I was reading in yesterday's paper, that a good majority of own label medicines are just as good as branded stuff...ok I've been buying generic pain killers for years...& was surprised to read some places do the Nicotine Replacement Therapy stuff too. Thought you might like to see what's available Mumzyof2, to help stretch the pennies a bit further:D

I made some little fairy cakes with the intention of making 'butterfly' cakes out of them, but cuz mum didn't make the icing the offspring haven't eaten them...so now the cakes are all lined up in the tin & looking very sad for themselves. In a mo, I'll make up some trifles to [STRIKE]get rid[/STRIKE] utilise my store cupboard staples including another OOD jelly & tin of fruit:rotfl:

Well its been a busy morning in the kitchen, made a beef and tomato stew thing-incorporated a tomato which had gone too soft to include in a salad, half a courgette that I might well have thrown in the past. Used up an egg/milk mix and some breadcrumbs from yesterdays fish cakes by making croquettes from some mashed tatties.....mmmm sitting in freezer chilling to be had tomorrow night with quiche. Also made some other stuff too so happy as its not even 11 yet!
Decided I might just eat the snowballs too and see what happens lol

A & C organic fruit & veg box and eggs delivered today so that's £12.85 to add to the total. Got some nice jersey royals and some salad this time so will have that for tea tonight with something from the larder. Other than that I haven't been out to be tempted to spend anything. Had porridge and leftover fruit salad this morning and hm veg soup and bread for lunch.

Just realised I have posted this on the wrong thread!:o :rotfl: should have been on the june grocery challenge, but as i am also trying to eat from the storecupboard and not throw anything away (todays veg soup was made with left over onion, peppers, last sweet potato in the bag and some sprouting spuds) I guess I can be forgiven!:D
