you can make bread and butter pud savoury easily, just omit any sugar/fruit/spices and layer the bread with veg, I like to use courgettes and/or peppers. Then pour over the egg mixture and let it soak in. Sprinkle with grated cheese before putting in the oven. You can add other flavourings to the egg mix such as a bit of mustard.

Yep - I have done savoury bread and butter pudding before now. Using cheese basically instead of the sweet stuff (like sultanas). I also add some sliced tomatoes on top. Its been quite a while since I did it - hence a bit vague - as its a 1960s vegetarian recipe to do this.
Nice though - as I recall.0 -

mumzyof2, i always used my salad despite the use by date, i suppose if it looks ok it should be ok.
Well i have done very well today, i had run out of my flapjack bars and instead of buying anymore i realised i had the ingrediants at home so i finished off some oats that have been at the top of the cupboard for ages and some syrup that is out of date, so feeling rather proud of myself!:j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

sorry to but in, re fresh v frozen peppers, i bought 500g frozen peppers from sainsbury today for 69p (that seemed to be the regular not reduced price) which i thought was a bargain, obviously no good for salads but great for stir fry, casseroles etc. I have weighed a fresh pepper i have in the fridge and it is 175g (less by the time you've took the stalk and seeds out) so it seems the way to go considering you struggle to buy 0ne fresh pepper for that price!0
