I like pears just griddled with cream or creme freche on. Lovely.

Has anyone got any ideas what I can do with a jar fo instant coffee. I bought it from lidl last week to try and it is horrible. Seriously I cant drink it but I don't want to throw it away.

    Thanks everyone.

You could always save the coffee to use in things like tiramisu or coffee and walnut cake, which would probably be sweet enough to disguise the flavour.

Having a meal from the freezer tonight. However much I eat from it the freezer always seems full! Will cook up whatever veg needs eating up tohave with it- from memory I'll be roasting some squash, carrots and tomatoes.

Has anybody got any ideas on what to do with 'melon overload' ?

He also brought me a pack of that gorgeous Sarah Nelson Grasmere Gingerbread - yummy!

We all love cubes of frozen melon here - that is I freeze it and we eat it frozen ....has lovely texture and is smashing as a treat in a bowl eaten with a fondue fork while watching a good film - same with frozen grapes.

If you have any problem using up the Gingerbread just send it to me and I'll eat it for you! ;)

Thanks everyone. What with this thread and the grocery challenge I am loving this whole cooking from scratch/using not throwing food away challenge. I have just made a Rhubarb and peach crumble (Rhubarb from allotment, peaches left in fridge by DD) and crumble topping made myself using store cupboard ingredients. To start we have a chicken casserole made with stuff from fridge and 4 organic chicken portions I got from supermarket reduced to 99p. I am added the steel cut porrige stuff from Ireland that simply is yucky for breakfast and pearl barley from cupboard(just small un-noticable amounts that family won't notice). Also..... I have made a huge pot of soup with at least 6 lunch portions for me from store cupboard stuff and 1 leek and 2 large carrots bought for purpose along with another v.cheap pot of frozen soup that is too spicy for me on it's own.

Ok, here is a challenge. I have two snowballs- the cakey ones with jam in and coconut on the outside. BBE 20 May. DH refusing to eat them, are they safe ? Any ideas how to incorporate them into any sort of dish ?
I always understood BBE meant best before but ok afterward- just quality not guaranteed so much- is this correct ?

    Don't think anyone answered this...

Yes, best before means just that - it may well be fine after that date but impaired quality. Use by is the dodgy one - but even that I stretch a little occasionally depending on the product. And Display Until is one for the shops - they take off the shelf or discount it, but again there should be a bit of life in it.

I had some yesterday that were just starting to go. In a pan and just about covered them with water. Boiled for a while, then I took out a few that had just plumped up a bit and put them in a dish, sprayed with olive oil, sprinkled with herbs and put in the oven for the last 15 minutes of the baby roast potatoes.

The rest I let boil for a while longer, added herbs and garlic, the blitzed in the bullet. Added some black pepper and a pinch of sugar. Had this for lunch today with some fresh bread and cream cheese. Watered it down a little as I think the skin to insides ratio is quite high and makes the soup a bit thick. It was so good I wouldn't eat it all as I wanted to save some for tomorrow.

I only wanted to do something easy.
