Thanks, usually items for the fridge tell you. Like our salsa says once open use within 3 days, but there is nothing like that on the yogurt..Dream of being mortgage free....

Well, I just went to get some carrots from the black bag in the cupboard and the ends had all gone that soft funny way. I only bought them on Thur but had to buy pre-packed as that was the only carrots in the COOP! Anyway I have had to cut the ends off them, but don't fear, kept the rest. 1/3rd was added to the lentil soup and the rest were peeled and put in a nice tub in the fridge to prevent further rot and also I will be able to keep an eye on them! Anyway the bag was 49p, there were about 10 carrots in and I estimate amount I had to chop off was equivalent to 1 carrot, so 5p wastage!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I got Pup some natural yog & he had a little yesterday. I didn't get around to doing it then, but I'll freeze the rest in little bags ready for another time. He has it if we've noticed he's been eating a lot of grass---apparently that's a sign of an upset tum & the yog helps to rebalance things, just like for us two-legged animals:p
Unfortunately I had "help" unpacking the shopping back last week & discovered a forgotten cauli by following my nose_pale_ so 50p in the bin for me so far this month.
Just out of interest, anyone got a good salsa recipe please? I asked about pesto on the Grocery Challenge, plus quite a bit of other stuff, & don't like to keep asking them:( I was brought up on bog-standard meat-n-2-veg type meals & the offspring are very happy to have them, but we are beginning to experiment with other flavours....bbq sauce/marinade is another I'm after. I do look on various food sites, but you can't ask questions on them:o like you can here.......TIAFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

I just threw out a portion of leftover white pasta in tomato sauce (I don't really like white pasta, but it was OH's leftovers and i'd brought it into work last week in case I fancied it - but went to a work lunch instead). About 5p worth.
Other than that, no wastage here this weekend0 -
I've got 4 ripe tomatoes in the bottom of the fridge begging to be used up probably for tea tonight.
Anyone got any good recipes to make good use of them. Slightly past their past to be used in salad now.

Last week I used some ropey old potatoes, that I would've normally thrown away, to make mash. I picked out the best of the bad bunch, but I still couldn't bring myself to throw out the really shrivelled ones. Well, I've just made another lot of mash with the last of these potatoes and only had to throw a couple out that had started to go green. Both lots of mash tasted fine.
It's a pity I didn't think about food waste earlier, maybe we wouldn't be so hard up now!!0 -
