Guess who grabbed it before it disappeared into the bin and came home with two carrier bags full of stuff! I told her she's nuts and that there was nothing wrong with it all, but she wasn't having any of it! Mad mad woman! Wonder if she'll pass on all the stuff she's bought this week and prob won't eat!
Sadly this is the case in many homes ... my neighbour has occasionally given me stuff they couldn't use when they were going away ... but they say they normally throw away loads ... often just because they change their minds on what they want to have for dinner!LittleBill ... It's not bizarre at all. The other day I came across a tip for using green onion sprouts chopped up in salads in the same way that you'd use chives; I think it might have been in Rose Prince's 'New English Kitchen' cookbook (which I highly recommend, by the way!).0 -
You could make homemade Baileys with evaporated milk and tip top :beer:0

Becca my fiance doesn't eat crusts either so I save them and have cheese on toast as a treat
There's an idea! Thanks!
I made bread and butter pud a few years ago, but my kids didn't like it then....
so that's why I've never tried it again.
Might do again though, you never know.
Although the Dutch are not that big on 'puds' like the britt's. We tend to eat more dairy stuff for dessert like yoghurt and custard and such.

...And my overall impression of making sure one uses up leftovers....I didnt realise how much food I actually have in. I'm trying to be very conscious of using up what I already have first - not perfect yet, but working on it. With this - I suspect my food bills havent gone up, despite the price rises.
Taking this "think about everything first" attitude seems - though I havent worked it out in detail - to have ensured that my food, fuel and water costs have stayed pretty much the same (despite the rises).
I guess I have often paid out for whatever and used it pretty unthinkingly - just because I could.0 -
I love this thread and have been using up everything in my fridge, even keeping small bits of onion, 1/2 carrot and 1/4 tin corn, 2 squishy toms , which I would usually throw out. I chopped and fryed these bits with garlic and chilli and mixed them in with cooked rice. I served this with some chicken thighs and legs rubbed with lime juice and paprika. A really cheap yummy dinner - but did have a bottle of Bud with it !!0
