What a great thread, I've been trying to do this. Here is an article about food maximisation. Link
Many thanks :AClick here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.
All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional0 -
This is going back a few pages to bread & butter pud, chocolate version is really nice, just use choc chips instead of dried fruit, and add drinking chocolate to the egg/milk. No extra sugar needed if you use milk chocolate (unless you've got a very sweet tooth).
My DDs like this but won't eat the normal one.0 -
If the continued world food shortage starts to bite, it's something to ponder that everybody will be forced to adopt these food maximising techniques, not because it's a desirable habit but because they simply won't be able to afford wasting a single crumb. We in the West are not at this point yet, but learning how to live in this way, and more importantly, teaching the younger generation how to manage food, will enable them to be better prepared for the "food crunch" when it eventually comes.0

The other week, my OH came to stay and we went shopping in Lidl, I forgot to pick up some cheddar so he raced off and came back with some Emmental:mad: . I have eaten it before when I have been on holiday in Austria but it has always been thinly sliced as breakfast food.
Don't laugh but I tried it sliced on a sandwich and it just doesn't work because of its rubbery nature. I have had to go and buy some ordinary cheese instead and now I am left with this huge pack of cheese that I don't want, won't eat in its present state but I don't want to chuck it out either. Any ideas on what I can do with it will be much appreciated.0 -
Not a great fan of Emmental Cheese either - so no personal recipes from me.

Good Luck with them - I'm another one who can't abide to see something like this wasted.

You can do a cheese fondue.
Mix it with some other cheeses like Gruy!re and some regular cheddar.
Add a good splash of white wine.
Heat gently to let the whole thing melt. you can add garlic if you like.
have a variety of crusty bread and chopped veggies like cauliflower etc in chunks. Some salad on the side as well.
You have to keep the cheesemix warm throughout the meal though. Either in a special fondu set or with a gel/petroleum burner that you can put on your table.
You then dip the bread and/or veggies in the cheese and eat!
It's a lovely 'do-it-yourself' meal where everybody just eats bits here and there. Very popular here in Holland on Holliday's.

You could make a fondue, although probably not the weather! Or a racellette (sp?) kind of thing on the bbq ...well in a pan on the bbq :eek:0
