Just on to update my sig. I did not personally throw anything over the weekend but DS decided he did not want his two biscotti as they had gone a bit soft, so I had to throw them on his behalf. Should really have saved them and mixed with some milk, but they had been in his lunch tub and were covered in butter/cheese/powder from a crisp and I just threw them  . Estimate about 8p each so added 16p on to my total!
Oh no    just found some more yuck on carrots- this time it was goo on one of the peeled ones I had in the fridge. Thats another 5p so will add on to sig on top of the 16!! Oh well used a good two or three in my split pea soup and am chuffed to be throwing very little compared to what I used to!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Using up spare spinach. Soak it in water if it's limp to revive it & drain well. Then stir it into a a cheese sauce as part of Macaroni cheese. It hardly needs any cooking at all. Any short pasta will do; you can use penne, etc We used Swiss Chard in this way.0

I had to throw away 2 very fuzzy strawberries this morning. They didn't look that bad yesterday. I made a smoothie with those, some blueberries that are going soft, cherries and a frozen banana. Yum.Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0

Any ideas what to do with a red grapefruit? DH has been purchasing them but always ends up with one leftover that he won't eat because its "past its date" (do grapefruit have dates??!!!)
I don't like grapefruit of any variety - but would be willing to try again if it were disguised in a recipe of some sort. Any suggestions?Pennies make pounds.

you could try sprinkling brown sugar over it then blasting it under the grill. Or mix it with sliced oranges for a refreshing starter. Red grapefruit are sweeter than yellow ones, you might be surprised if you try it.
Failing that, remove the sticker off the grapefruit or the bag immediately after purchase - he wont have a clue then0 -
A non-eating suggestion for the vile coffee.
When we've done up houses and have to integrate new skirting board or door frames we dye them with coffee. In a jam jar make up a solution using as much coffee and as little water as possible (very hot water and lots of stirring helps). Then just paint on.
I've also used it to stencil simple patterns on plain wooden boxes I've made.
Smells fabulous - but isn't waterproof so a bit of mat sealer is needed if you want to be able to wash the paintwork later.Has anyone got any ideas what I can do with a jar fo instant coffee. I bought it from lidl last week to try and it is horrible. Seriously I cant drink it but I don't want to throw it away.0 -
We have the thick tough end bits of stalks from two bunches of asparagus eaten at the week-end. Rather than compost them, I'm going to chop them up, simmer them in some chicken stock, thickened with some chopped peeled old potatoes to thicken the liquid until soft. Will then whizz up in the blender to make delicious asparagus soup which can either be eaten fresh or frozen.0
