Leftover lemon juice from the freezer used as a vinegar substitute, or in a soup recipe or a vegan "cheese" recipe. (The "cheese" contained 35ml lemon juice plus approx. 41ml water, 51gr soya flour, 3/4 tsp salt and sprinkled with rosemary herb. It was all gently warmed/mixed in a pan and patted into portions in a plastic tray that previously had buns in, then put in the fridge). Also used old garlic cloves to make garlic bread.
Also working on using up previous bread recipes and fat (e.g. homemade chicken fat for frying and also warming up previously fried veg and adding other bits of salad). Homemade dried fruit peel or dried fruit being added to desserts.0 -
Ok...here's a challenge, I have 3 sultana scones left (small size) which are rather past their best - does anyone have any idea about what I could do with them other than put them out for the birds?Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I'd wrap them in foil and warm them up in the oven and eat them warm spread with butter and jam0

Ohhh, not a bad idea, although it would be a dinky one, unless I add some more bread..I see a plan forming. I've just seen a recipie online that says I need cream and whole milk - is this 100% necessary as I don't have either ... I do however have some extra sultanas left from chutney making I could useFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Dinky one would be fine! We have a B and B thread which may help? I think you can use just milk and eggs for a "pauper" version, or custard?
That thread has loads of variations. You could toast them and eat with dripping butter , or blitz for sweet breadcrumbs for a crumble topping (mixed with normal crumble)? You could freeze the sweet breadcrumbs for future use?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

This will sound wierd and possibly repulsive but my mum used to fry them in bacon fat and serve them up with bacon or sausages or black pudding etc. for my dad's breakfast (and for us kids as well if there were enough). Yes, even the sweet sultana type. They were delish.0

I have just come home from my DDs with two lovely pieces of chicken that was left over from dinner tonight. One I will have with a jacket potato for lunch tomorrow and the other will be with a big salad for dinner tomorrow night.I took one of my DGS to the orthodontist this afternoon and when we got home Dd had already made a start on dinner. Her eldest phoned to say she wouldn't be in for dinner so she had made too much so I stayed to dinner and brought tomorrow's home in a tuppaware box.She did it with home made breadcrumbs and egg, flour and mixed herbs and it was delicious. So no rooting in the freezer for tomorrows food.0
