Also for June I had a small jar of herbs so put this in a bread recipe. As with frittata recipes that ceridwen mentions, I find creating bread recipes allows allsorts to be added. Another idea has been to use up indoor and outdoor edible plants which have been used alongside a purchased leftover.

Some may recall that in June I aimed not to buy anything apart from beverage requirements. This was relatively successful although the difficulties were necessary purchases for health needs, other challenges, outstanding bargains/pressure from rising cost of food plus store offers on usual useful ingredients.

Just thought I'd let you know that I'm pleased with myself today.

It was our daughter's 5th birthday party yesterday and they had sandwich shapes made with pastry cutters.
My lunch today, and my breakfast on the train to work, was the off-cuts.

    :)

The only problem is that there's too much here. Should have frozen some!

I had ham and cheese spread. There was also jam sandwiches at the party, but I don't like those.

In your future, I see lots of bread and butter pudding using the jam sandwich leftovers:rotfl:

I did that "shaped sandwiches" trick for DD's party, and DH and I ate the leftovers later - it was great that we didn't have to do anything once all the little darlings were gone home!

Tonight, we are having stuffed tomatoes and mushrooms for dinner - I had the end of a nice loaf of bread a couple of weeks ago (the fresh baked in-store kind) and made breadcrumbs. Usually I freeze them straight, but I made a batch of stuffing with this lot as I have about 3 other bags of crumbs in the freezer, and froze the stuffing. This means I have a really fast tasty dinner that I can throw together in just minutes (the stuffing can go into the oven still frozen which is great). Just a regular stuffing - sweat an onion or shallot, chopped garlic, add crumbs, fresh herbs (or dried), plenty of freshly ground pepper, some real butter and fry for a few minutes. I'll stuff the mushrooms with the plain mix, but add the tomato middles (and maybe some leftover bacon pieces in freezer) to the mix before stuffing the tomatoesm, and there's a small bit of grated cheese in fridge too that I'll throw in (I usually grate half a block when I open it, and it's handy for sambos, cheese sauce or whatever then in a hurry).

I have DH lined up to do a big Spanish omlette at the weekend too, to use up some broad beans, new potatoes, maybe some spinach, and eggs.

Just out of interest, last time we looked already grated SmartPrice cheese was cheaper (weight for weight) than a block of SmartPrice cheese.
