    Bakewell Tart

This is for a 7" flan dish or I double up for a 9" dish.

    Jam - raspberry or strawberry
    2oz Marg
    2oz Caster Sugar
    1 egg
    1oz SR Flour
1oz Ground Almonds (I use more for a better flavour !!)

Line the flan dish with pastry

Spread jam over the pastry base

In a bowl cream together the marg and sugar then add the egg, flour and almonds and mix until smooth.

Poor this mixture in to the flan dish over the jam and spread around

bake at 190c/375f or gas 5 for approx 20 mins or until you can poke it with a knife and it comes out clean.

Once it has cooled I pour icing over it and decorate with cherries.

    T xx

A big thankyou to everyone for inspiring me to try this challenge amongst others. I'm not a natural at throwing meals together so your ideas help!

Seem to have several things that need to be used in the next couple of days so I decided to make up a sauce with them to go with the tuna!
    2 onions
    1 chili
    2 cloves garlic
    1 pepper
    1 fajita spice mix
1 tin chopped tomatoes from store cupboard

I've lost my taste buds from all the spice but it was pretty good- and I've frozen the leftovers to use with the other tuna steaks this week!

Hi all it's day 5 of the challenge:

Today we finally finished the ham in the fridge (use by date = today).

I'm really proud as we haven't thrown anything away yet (only the chicken bones after i made chicken stock, but i'm sure we couldn't eat those).

I'm really pleased some have you have used my rhubarb jam recipe and enjoyed it.

Keep going everyone & think of the difference to your pocket and the difference to landfill sites that joined together we can all make.

This is a brilliant post - I was really shocked by the survey showing how much is wasted. I didn't think I was too bad - I always save leftover rice or pasta and have it as a salad for lunch the next day, and use up veg in soups etc. But I am guilty of dishing too much up esp for the kids, and then not wanting to keep food that has been on someone's plate and toyed with...so now I am going to do the same as Mumzyof2 and dish up smaller helpings of anything I'm not sure they will like, then they can either have seconds, or I can save what's left for next day's lunch.

Jellie I don't think you can do jam in all BMs, I have a Morphy Richards fastbake which has a jam recipe, however it was such a pain to clean afterwards, I've never used it again for jam making

No food waste here today, yesterday was 2 burgers way overcooked on bbq which became doggy treats....
One day I might be more organised...........

    Hi

Thanks for the advise on the pears. I decided to do a crumble, i used the 5 manky pears, some tinned fruit cocktail which had been in the fridge for about a week and 2 apples because it looked a little sparse. It was a great success, everyone said it was the best crumble i'd ever made.:j
