Are there any allotment gardens to rent near you? The rents on ours locally are very cheap.:j New Year, New You = 1.5lb/12lb:j0 -
Well, we have loads of land but also loads of deer and rabbits and as much as I'd love to grow veg all I would be doing is feeding the local wildlife.0

I grew rocket, lambs lettuce spinach, mint, thyme, indoors.
Just took a plastic tray you get mushrooms or meat in from supermarket, bit of compost and it grew liike wildfire
Lettuce is the best as its so expensive to buy for what it is given its been shipped from the other side of the planet!
Careful though, the rocket is super peppery!
I got my seeds from wilkinsons in london- stratford E15. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Thanks redballoon! I have just put the phone down from arranging an allotment for myself so any extra advice will be great. The allotment was £16 for the year and I'm going to check it out tomorrow. For those without gardens check your local councils webiste for listings. I'm about 10 minutes from Birmingham city centre and have been offered 11 different sites no further than 5 minutes from me!
I've grown veggies for two years now in my little garden and started as a novice and have absolutely loved it.
For those discussing pots I grew tomatoes and peppers very easily in pots last year. I've also read a thread recently about growing potatoes in a dustbin and I'm really looking forward to giving that a go.Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! I have allotments which are really cheap to rent and are provided( by law they have to be) by the local council. I pay £17.75 per year for a decent sized allotment and grow all my veg, fruit and salad. I then make soups, jams, pickles, relishes and dry beans and peas for the winter. The cost is virtually nil as you can often collect and keep you own seeds or buy them through the allotment...and they taste much better, and the exercise is better than payin for gym membership. Now I'm off to watch is progWombling £457.410
